The problem I see is that with that many rules that are in 3.x it would be almost impossible to create a 4e that would justify the title "next new edition" (and not just 3.75e) and still be compatible with 3e. For this this the rules in 3e are already so dependant on each other that bigger...

I'm in the "maybe, but only..." camp. My fear is that the next edition will be even more complex and rules-heavy than the current one. And if that is the case I will certainly not buy 4e. Perhaps WotC will then put "D&D 4e..forget Rolemaster, we are bigger!" on their ads :\
