WIR S1 Tomb of Horrors [SPOILERS!! SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!!]‏

That blog is a perfect example of how 'losing' in D&D can sometimes be the most memorable, and fun. :)

Mystery Man-type: low-powered, often gadget-based, such as Sandman, Dr. Mid-Nite, Hourman, Batman, Blue Beetle/Nite-Owl, or The Question/Rorschach

    Getting Attaached to Your Character

Once upon a time, I rolled up a new 3e character. The DM asked 'do you want me to give you a backstory?' I replied, 'naw, if he survives to 5th level, then we'll come up with something.' Generally speaking, the 'plays the thing' with me, so adventures I get in determines how 'attached' to a...

    Should this be fixed

The keyword here is players. If the group decides to go against the grain of the campaign world on some matter and play that way, cool. If a single player decides to lone wolf his character to the detriment of the group - Not. Cool. At. All.

    Should this be fixed

The fair thing would be to 'meta-game' and kill the offending player character. If that's too harsh, how much would a dwarf fetch on the slave market? You might be able to recoup some of those lost gee-pees. ;) In all seriousness, the DM has no responsibility to 'fix' anything in this...

How Often Do You Actually Play?

I don't think I've actually sat down and played a real role-playing game . . . in about 6 years. *sad face* I pretty much consider myself 'retired' from the game-form.

Tomb of Horrors - example of many, or one of a kind?

Like Gary, I was partially being mock insulting for humor. ;) On the other hand, a D&Der who walks out of a game session because 'it's too hard' isn't a D&Der worthy of the name, in my opinion. If 'winning' in D&D is surviving to tell your tale, then walking away from the table is surely...

Tomb of Horrors - example of many, or one of a kind?

Was there a hot game of Candyland he was missing? :p Those that complain about real challenges might be better off playing Candyland with their little sister [/Gary]

NPCs you'd like to play as PCs.

I was tempted to turn Meepo from the Sunless Citadel into a recuring, Gollum/Gurgi-like character that might be pretty fun (for me) to run as a PC, given the right group.

    Level one...hero or schlub?

I'd go earlier, when he refuses Darth Vader's offer, overcomes his fear, and simply falls to his unknown fate in Cloud City.

    Level one...hero or schlub?

'It's not your level, but what you do, that makes you a hero.' -paraphrased from Batman, Batman Begins

Sexism in D&D and on ENWorld (now with SOLUTIONS!)

Way up thread I mentioned a reference in OD&D to Women's Lib: From Greyhawk, D&D Supplement I, page 35 (misspelling and emphasis in the original): DRAGONS: These additional varities of Dragons conform to the typical characteristics of their species except where noted. There is only one King of...

Monster & Treasure distribution in older editions

Does the text specifically say that monsters can see normally?

Monster & Treasure distribution in older editions

That may be what the literal text says, but it may also be a little too much of a "rat bastard" interpretation, even for me. ;)

The Implications of Biology in D&D

Nescio *Nods* This is the origin of philosophy . "Natural science" (biology, physics, astronomy, geology, etc) falls under the category of "physical philosophy" (Latin and Greek root words, respectively).

We played the latter style in AD&D and Rules Cyclopedia D&D. Don't remember if that was RAW or not.

A vision of a D&D retro-clone with new school elements

The heart of "old school" is making the game the way you want it. You're already taken the first step into a larger world. :)
