Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

There were times it was more tricky than others. Being willing to play one or two down makes a big difference. Kids are now mostly grown up or at least in the age bracket where they don’t need their parents every day.

Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

It works out on a practical level similar total play-time as playing 2-3 hours per week, but only gaming every 3-4 weeks is easier to arrange for us when everyone has family and work commitments.

Playing in Person Is Just Better (for me)

We played online during Covid and it was a life-saver for our gaming and mental health. But we reverted back to f2f once the situation improved to the point where we were all comfortable being in the same room for 10 hrs (our normal play pattern was a 10 hr session on a weekend every 3-4 weeks)...

Trying to Describe "Narrative-Style Gameplay" to a Current Player in Real-World Terms

A couple of things come to mind on that thread, one general and one specific to the Narrative Dice System that FFG uses. In general, this kind of flow does not have to be mandated by the system. The GM can totally run other games with a similar flow to movies; it is my default style. Zoom in on...

Trying to Describe "Narrative-Style Gameplay" to a Current Player in Real-World Terms

I haven’t played the FFG Star Wars systems recently, but I do recall that gear was potentially still a thing in that system. And I think sci-fi particularly prone to this dilemma due to some things being extremely expensive and the assumption of a large economy. My players joke about it in the...

Trying to Describe "Narrative-Style Gameplay" to a Current Player in Real-World Terms

That was the game we were playing, and he knew that but didn’t understand the implications until it was explained. Now we all get it and when we are playing genre games we stick with them.

[Kickstarter] Broken Empires RPG by Trevor Devall of Me, Myself and Die!

I’m in a similar space, though with D&D rather than PF1. I’ll still use Savage Worlds for pulp fantasy but I think TBE may well become my go-to for gritty fantasy.

Trying to Describe "Narrative-Style Gameplay" to a Current Player in Real-World Terms

I had a similar thing running Firefly a few years back. The party were in a saloon on some planet and a fist-fight started. One of the players reached for his gun to open fire because “that’s the highest attack skill I have” but I stopped the scene and explained that ‘bar brawls and fist fights...

RPG Crowdfunding News – Grim Hollow, Conan, Broken Empires, and more

If people are interested in The Broken Empires (which seems really cool to me, and I’m already backing it) there is an AMA scheduled for tonight (if Trevor’s internet is fixed :(). For some reason the imbed isn’t working for this, here’s a link. The system has a really interesting combo of...

[Kickstarter] Broken Empires RPG by Trevor Devall of Me, Myself and Die!

Trevor has been collecting opinions on what people want to know more about, so I am sure there will be some more videos talking about those things between now and the conclusion. And if he has said everything, I’m personally already sold. 🙂 The system is a fresh gumbo of juicy RPG mechanics...

[Kickstarter] Broken Empires RPG by Trevor Devall of Me, Myself and Die!

I would think quite a bit more than that - the 48hr reminders usually trigger another bigger wave of backers. $500k might be achievable and I bet Trevor has a number of YT videos to go out and build interest in the final week, too.
