DDAL Elven chain armour. do you need light armour proficiency?

I think RAW is no you do not need any proficiency, but I would rule RAI as needing light. I think this magic item granting you the trained ability negates needing training. I would think that boosting your AC would need some sort of training though, even the most basic of light armor.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I like the idea of returning to the table more... But they just spend the last couple years telling me that online microtransactions were the future. Something about a billion-dollar-franchise. It would be cool if they had an online tool that allowed me to drag and drop items like monster...

Tall vs broad advancement in RPGs

I think I'm more of a D&D tall advancement player. I like the zero-to-hero advancement. I also like what 5e did with spreading out the 'sweet spot' of levels to play longer in the levels of not struggling, but before things get too easy to overcome everything. Goes to the threads about...

    D&D General Secret Curse Help

Give a magic item out like something that grants +5 to Perception and Investigation checks. Have another cool ability if you want. The PC that takes this item is now the patsy of the curse. You can give information to them and they will thing that it is the item being cool.

What makes Arthurian fantasy its own genre, different from more traditional D&D-ish medieval fantasy? What are some Arthurian-style plots?

I have always pictured big quests with lots of suffering. The knights all seem about 5th level before getting one though and they last another several levels. There is a lot of searching for locations and lost books of knowledge.

Approaching writing adventures for home games?

I might take an idea from a PC. Perhaps he has a history event or ongoing feud or such. I had one PC who's background had him owing a debt for freedom and after several levels of adventuring, I made an adventure with a collector coming around and offering to cancel it for a specific mission...

    D&D General The Shadow?!?!?!

Well,,,, he does use his powers of invisibility and persuasion over weak minds to fight evil. At first I was confusing my 90s super movies thinking the Shadow was Billy Zane. I guess they have the same first name.

Is it appropriate to post a list of games I'm selling off at a discount?

On one hand I do not want the site to become clogged with people trying to sell me junk, there is enough ads floating around my screen right now. Other hand is if you are looking to sell to people you like and think want certain things related to the site then put something in promotions.

Tips and Tricks to Running a Con Game

I looked up LOS not knowing what it was and only found Line of Scrimmage and German slang for Let's Go or Move. Neither made sense, then I finally thought of Line of Sight.

D&D General Campaign Idea: Building the Palace of Versailles - what would you do?

To me it sounds fun as the backdrop of the campaign. Maybe we start off guarding the royal surveying crew looking for the lost ruins of X to build upon. Finding out later that the old X location was tied to summoning demons or being able to boost magic or something cool or sinister. Then we...

What is a West Marches game?

It might be fun to have an online group with the map and then break out to my home group for the individual adventures. Mayb if I was in touch with players from the 80s and 90s who had groups of their own and we could communicate online and expand a shared world but keep home play.

    D&D General Good background

You cannot go wrong with criminal or urchin background for a rogue. It feeds the class with a few good options and allows you to pick some other things since the background gives it to you. The other thought is to go with something that fits your idea of the PC. Maybe the PC grew up in a...
