    D&D 3.x 3.5 Arcane Archer Rebuild

Compared to what? The earliest you could get to level 10 of Arcane Archer in 3rd ediiton was 17th level. A Cleric Archer had Greater Magic Weapon that handed out +5 weapons all day long at level 15. And this only cost the Cleric Archer spell slots that she wouldn't have anyway had she gone...

    Arcane Archer's Imbue Arrow ability

No. The real question is why you wouldn't just be a Cleric Archer. Those guys kick the pants off of "Arcane Archers" to this day. Better spellcasting, that they can do in armor, coupled with more magical arrows from GMW, coupled with more all-around archery bonuses. The fact is that Wizard...

    Let's talk about Prismatic Spray

Which version are you talking about? The 3rd edition version covers a huge area of effect - 66 squares at the lowest level you could possibly cast it. That's a lot of enemies. That makes Prismatic Spray quite the room clearer. If your enemies don't have a lot of people - it's probably not...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Only Smackdown

Well, there's some bits of craziness in non-core books (especially the ELH) - but not in the 3.5 Core Books, no. -Frank

    Change to ability increases...

Absolutely. First of all: the concept that physical stats are somehow worth more than mental ones is hillariously wrong. Half Orcs really are the worst PHB race, and Gray Elves are the most powerful LA +0 race in the core rules. Secondly: noweher do you ever get mental stats any cheaper than...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Only Smackdown

Polymorph Any Object rather explicitlyy doesn't have any other hit die limits from Polymorph. Shrew -> Manticore and all that. I don't know why it would have the 15 hit die limit - nor can I think of any Colossal creatures under 15 hit dice for your to turn into, making the size thingy rather...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Only Smackdown

Probably using Polymorph Any Object - which allows you to turn a creature or object into any creature regardless of type, hit dice, or size (up to Colossal). Although the question remains: why be a Planetar when the same spell will allow you to become a Solar? Or for that matter, a Colossal...

Need to negate Force-type damage & Disintegrate.

If the class gives you an unlimited number of lesser yous, each of whom could potentially be powerful enough to in turn make an unlimited number of lesser yous in turn - then the class is obviously not well balanced. It's like sticking a sticker on free Simulacrum and calling it balanced. It...

    Alternate Spell Components...

Yes, you build a miniature Tower of Babel in order to speak with all the men of the Earth. It's an old testament "easter egg" - which someone thought was funny in 1977. Ever since, it's just become a tired, tired pun. Lot's of spell components are like that to one degree or another - and...

    Iaijutsu Headaches

Note that it is legal to, as a full attack: quick-draw a dagger, drop it, kick someone in the head (focus damage applies), quick draw another dagger, drop that, and kick someone in the head again. The literal restriction is that you have to draw a weapon and then make a melee attack against a...

DUDE!! Where the heck is the Mind Flayer??

Especially odd as the Mind Flayer is rather explicitly a Cthonian, especially in the original stuff from the seventies. So I'm not sure where they get off calling those "unique D&D creations". -Frank

    Alternate Spell Components...

Material Components - even costly components - are not a meaningful balancing factor. If you don't like using them - just drop them from the game entirely. They are there to promote a certain genre of wizard who fiddles with stuff - and to provide inane comic relief through puns. If you want...

The ideal 4 member party in 3.5

The charisma of oyur party has essentially no influence upon the quests it gets. The quests come from what the DM has time to write up coupled with player choice. The DM isn't ever going to bother writing up quests that your party can't get - so essentially your options are limited by DM spare...

    Help with an Alchemist Class

No - I mean a limit on quality. It doesn't really matter how much non-masterwork equipment you can scavenge up at 3rd level - and there's really no point in trying to limit the amount of masterwork equipment a 6th level character can have. Similarly, a 12th level character can just go ahead and...

Ahem. The rules are up to the DM. The DM is God. Worship the Glorius DM!

The DM is one player at a table with two to nine players playing at it. The DM is not god - he's just one player among several. He has more responsibilities, and more control over the story than do the other players - but he's not omnipotent, and certainly should not act like he is. -Frank

    Help with an Alchemist Class

The thing is that currently stuff like Fabricate already allow the character to get unlimited piles of cash. I really don't have a problem with 9th level characters being able to buy everything that they ever need to. As long as money is an object, it places extreme limits on the world that I'm...

The ideal 4 member party in 3.5

Fighters still don't get these things called "abilities" after second level. So the ideal party is now: Wizard Rogue Cleric Ranger 2/ Fighter 2/ (Barbarian or Paladin 2)/ Prestige Class X That's a slight change from 3rd ediiton when the final member of the ideal group was a: Ranger 1/ Fighter...

    Help with an Alchemist Class

I would suggest limiting alchemists on "value" rather than weight. Not only because the characters in Full Metal Alchemist have so much trouble with bringing life to the dead - but also because 20 pounds of wood is nowhere near as game altering as 1 pound of alchemist's fire. On the swag end -...

    Special damage and DR

That is correct. Energy damage is handled separately from physical damage. Damage Reduction does not reduce energy damage in any way. Similarly, Energy Resistance does not reduce physical damage in any way. -Frank
