    New DM

Don't worry too much about creativity. Just start thinking of crazy stuff, and throw it in the game. See something in a movie or book that is really cool? Add it to your campaign. Need a new villain to fight? Watch an action film and steal any good characters for your game. The players...

    D20 Modern Item Creation Question

Not really. Magic items weren't considered part of the game balance, so the ability to provide them was put entirely in the hands of the GM. Some limited options are provided by various advanced classes (Techie, Mage, Adept, Occultist, etc) but the options are few. Urban Arcana had a few...

    Savage Worlds: Question for Ari

Yeah, but when you're a Wild Card, you get to roll both the d6 and the d8. Statistically, bigger dice are better. Acing is awesome, but your odds of success are just so much higher on larger dice. If you're lazy and want to check your odds in any Savage game, check it out.

    [DC Adventures] new shiny

I really think they could have simplified Impervious. 2 / rank, up to half your save bonus (round up); effects of a rank equal or lower are ignored. Really powerful, effectively the same, and not deceptive. One of my few large complaints, so far.

My proposed house rules & recommendations

I find myself in disagreement on a number of points, but I'll chalk it up to personal taste, group play-styles, and very different ideas about "balance" and the utility of power points. Because of those differences, I wouldn't want to play in your game(s), and I can't figure out how to help you...

Trailblazer design notes: the cutting room floor

I'm not quite sure, honestly. If I was, I'd have fixed it and mentioned it in the HR thread. ;) I haven't seen one in play too much, but I think it's a combination of being squishy and only mildly strike-y. Before my current campaign I ran a third level adventure with throw-away characters...

Possibly. Good luck with it, regardless.

    Subscription levels dropping

For some reason I'd ended up with two subscriptions. One just had to go.

    Combining Post 3.x games?

True20. Conviction (like action points, as the Incredible Hulk is like the Governator), Challenges (take -5 to the check, do something cooler / faster), alternative caster limitations. Some good stuff. Dino-Pirates of Ninja Island. Seriously, it's a really neat True20 variant. Especially...

My proposed house rules & recommendations

    1. Good. 2. Right-o. Making my PL 50 Superman-type. +40 attack, +60 damage, +20 defense, +80 toughness (60 Impervious). Other saves around 40; no need to be completely ridiculous. You might conclude that I think #2 is a bad idea. You'd be flawed; I think it is a bad idea as written, but it...

Trailblazer design notes: the cutting room floor

Any chance of seeing the Monk discussions? I'm still not sure if that class is strong enough to be really useful, despite how much I like it (even in it's 3.0 incarnation).

    Deadlands & Earthdawn

Both Classic and Reloaded use playing cards (for initiative order) and poker chips (for negating wounds, activating really-special abilities, and minor plot-control). Which is both fun and immersing.

    d20 Rules for Foot Chases?

Seconded. Hot Pursuit is excellent regardless of rules system. The ideas translate into most other rule sets (I'm speaking of non-d20 rules, it takes little to no effort to put them into any d20 system) with little fuss. An excellent product line.

    Iron Heroes

It was a low/no-magic, high-action, high fantasy variant of 3.5 gaming (created by Mike Mearls pre-WotC). The PC classes were entirely non-magical (except for the optional caster class, and the other caster that came in a later splat-book). Despite the lack of spells, magic items, or fancy...

    Trailblazer Houserules

Yeah, this is the sort of house rule that you make into a campaign feature, where all the PCs have it. Maybe monsters and NPCs have to confirm, maybe not (depends upon how you want to keep PC turn-over down).* One other houserule I'm contemplating is giving all PCs the Bound Item action point...

Can a PC duplicate monstrous Extraordinaries?

There's always Pun-Pun, who can get any and every ability ever written. Heck, he may even be able to bestow them upon other characters.

    Accurate or stylish conversions

When converting between games, one should always focus on the style of the thing converted. The mechanics were designed for a different system, and should be left in that system. The flavor text, however, is rules-neutral and give an excellent guideline for what the element should feel like...

    [DC Adventures] new shiny

Much more versatile, mostly due to lifting most of the restrictions; also, renamed Grab. In summary: Standard action to Grab victim. Grabbing effect (Strength or powers) resisted by victim's Strength or Dodge. It's a bit unclear, but it seems that the attacker's effect is a 'routine check'...

    Where Can I Buy a Dicebag +5?

First off, see if anyone else is bothered by his dice luck. Be discrete, as it would be rude to cause the problems if they don't yet exist. If no one else sees anything then you have a very simple, classic, DM option to use: cheat. Only you know all the modifiers applied at any given moment...
