I think I know how the morality clause acceptable(+)

Oh my god, no! I absolutely do not want to hear any stories about a young RPG writer getting cancelled because they wrote something outrageous on social media like "Palestinians have human rights and do not deserve to be murdered forever." Of course, I don't trust WotC with this power either...

D&D 5E (2024) What could have been: More officially supported nonspell nonMages

I'm going to be honest, I consider never again having to deal with the shambling mound of zombified, sacred cattle cadavers that is the "D&D magic system" a very nice glass of lemonade to get out of this. I mean I'm not disagreeing with you that 3PPs could have done a lot with the class groups...

Legal Eagle has entered the chat, about OGL 1.1

You're right, it was overprinting and too much unsold stock which helped kill them. I guess we'll see if investing massive money in a VTT ends up being a similar waste.

Legal Eagle has entered the chat, about OGL 1.1

I'm admittedly not a D&D history expert, but I seem to recall how TSR's era of "let's sue everyone and fail to produce sufficient content" went.

The WotC OGL Release on DDB today was edited in real time!

Please explain the method by which a fan community could ever "extort" a corporation.

The WotC OGL Release on DDB today was edited in real time!

I think this is a misunderstanding of the situation. This is not a "negotiation," the community and 3PPs were wronged by WotC. Even putting aside whether it's really true they gave fans "almost everything," imagine a person went into a public park, and chopped down all the trees that had been...

The WotC OGL Release on DDB today was edited in real time!

I thought we all said "nat 20" or "nat 1."

The WotC OGL Release on DDB today was edited in real time!

I'll be honest, this sounds more like you're using this situation to rant about some nebulous "online people" who ALWAYS do certain things, apparently. And yes, I do think if WotC actually made meaningful, concrete steps to correct their hostile actions towards the community, many people would...

D&D Beyond Cancellations Changed WotCs Plans

Further confirmation that WotC really, truly expected 3PPs to actually sign those sweetheart deals.

OGL 1.1/2.0 may doom ONE in the same way GSL doomed 4E

I think it doesn't help One's case that it really seems to be a half-edition at best. There's unlikely to be a hugely compelling reason for people to move on. Again, as divisive as 4e was, it was a unique game, and you couldn't go elsewhere for a game like it.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Of course it's a sympathetic argument, that's exactly why they've repeatedly invoked it while arguing in bad faith about their real goals.

Paizo Announces New Irrevocable Open RPG License To Replace the OGL

Wizards is not going to sue over ability score names, unless they plan on fielding lawsuits from the entire video game industry.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

This isn't clear at all! They literally spent years telling 3PPs it was irrevocable, and acted as if that was true for 20+ years.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

I for one am glad WotC is here to protect us from 3rd party publishers writing awful stuff like the Hadozee last year. Wait, hold on, I'm getting some new information...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

"Already released." They still want to de-authorize OGL 1.0a for all future content.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

I'm not sure how people are taking this as a win. They literally said nothing about the OGL 1.0a, so the default assumption should be that they still want to "de-authorize" it. Removing the royalties is a very minor victory since no one was ever going to agree to those terms.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Whatever they're paying their PR writers isn't enough for forcing them to write the corporate equivalent of this

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Man, they really spent a lot of time saying "Look, we just hate NFTs and racism, like all of you fellow kids." Interesting also that they talked about the part that would have allowed them to steal creators' content, but just completely ignored the attempt to deauthorize the OGL 1.0a. Like they...

How long do we wait for WoTC to speak?

I honestly think they did believe that. At the very least, they thought a sufficient number of them would, as opposed to... literally zero.

How long do we wait for WoTC to speak?

Given all their other recent decisions, this might be giving the current leadership too much credit.
