How are you getting that DPR for SOTM? And out of curiosity, what feats are so awesome that you don't have enough for Weapon Focus or Lethal Hunter?
We're not calculating percentage, we're calculating average damage.
Let's say I can flip one coin in a round. It'll land on heads 0.5 times per...
Here's what I got when calculating with Weapon Focus, Lethal Hunter, and Hunter's Quarry included:
Hawk's Talon = 16.45 DPR
Spikes of the Manticore = 19.63 DPR
Spikes of the Manticore = 15.88 DPR (target with cover or concealment)
Spikes of the Manticore = 12.05 DPR (target with cover and...
It seems highly likely to me the Ranger will have weapon focus.
You also need to factor in Hunter's Quarry which, again, will likely be a d8 because of Lethal Hunter.
The hit chance of one attack has no effect on the other. Multiply the chance of one attack hitting by the average damage roll...
I found an awesome loophole! On page 242 it says "Add oregano to taste!" It doesn't say how much oregano, or what sort of taste! You can add as much oregano as you want! I'm going to make my friends eat infinite oregano and they'll have to do it because the recipe says so!
Videogame-y is funny because it changes from an insult to a compliment depending on who is using it. It's still rarely a good description though, as it means nothing.
For instance, hit points are videogame-y.
Criticism of any game system should be allowed. Of course, if you're going to use undefined "negative" terms like videogame-y, WOW-like, unfun, etc., without explanation that will inevitably cause problems.
Like someone said, the poor farmboy trained in high-class weapons with 150 gold pieces?
This is a common misconception about the power system. The power system does not promote homogeneity- just the opposite, the power system allows for a tremendous amount of diversity in a set framework. In...
I have noticed that the defenders in our party burn through surges like mad.
It's the anti-3e. Instead of having to rest because the Wizard is out of spells, we have to rest because the Fighter is out of surges!
A Swordmage still needs a good strength so his modifier is unlikely to be much lower that the fighter's. Probably about 1 point of difference. I don't think one less point of damage is enough to make up for being able to apply that damage to all adjacent enemies.
Does that mean you could potentially create a super combo wherein an Orb Wizard does something like cast a spell that causes 5 ongoing fire damage, save ends, while another character uses a power that causes 15 ongoing fire damage, resulting in the character taking 15 ongoing fire damage until...
