    4E is for casuals, D&D is d0med

The funny thing is this exact thought occurred to me before I found this thread. This is actually the same theory a lot of people had when the Wii met its initial success. They're not looking quite like the nostradamuses they thought they were nowadays.

Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

Exactly. Nothing makes me happier than hearing people complain that their Wizard isn't the god of the party any more, because that means WOTC did their job. Skills were worthless in 3.x because there was always a spell that was better at the job. Wizards were better sneaks than Rogues, better...

Average Damage of Classes (A request)

I believe Strikers can easily deal the most damage to a single target in optimal circumstances.

Rogue: Wielding dagger, offhanding shuriken? No penalties?

Unless it works like a boomerang.

Question about Hunter's Quarry and Twin Strike

Twin vs. Basic is more of an interesting choice, as far as I can tell from what little math I've done. It really depends on two things: -How much bonus damage you get besides your modifier. -What you need to roll to hit. In general, the higher you need to roll, and the more non-modifier bonus...

    No Familiars?

There's absolutely no rule against your Wizard owning whatever kind of animal he wants. They just wouldn't give any mechanical benefit.

    Why no plate for fighters?

At least Scale isn't terrible, like chainmail is.

Question about Hunter's Quarry and Twin Strike

Actually, against high-AC targets is when you really want to use Twin Strike. Let's say the Dragon has an AC such that you need to roll a 15 or higher on your basic attack to hit it. With careful shot you need a 13. So you have a 40% chance of hitting the dragon each round with Careful Attack...

Question about Hunter's Quarry and Twin Strike

Thanks. I don't have the books yet, so I couldn't remember what it said. So is it just me, or is Twin Strike by far the best at-will for an archer Ranger? Nimble Strike I can so being useful in some situations, but Careful Strike is just awful.

Question about Hunter's Quarry and Twin Strike

If I'm using Twin Strike, do I wait until I hit with an attack to roll Hunter's Quarry damage? Or do I have to declare it beforehand and potentially "waste" my Hunter's Quarry?

    Tissue-Paper Dungeons?

Opening doors is for Rogues. Knock is just a last resort.

    Tissue-Paper Dungeons?

If your players insist on destroying all the walls in the dungeons, rather than using the doors, you might want to teach them a lesson in structural integrity.

Compiled list of errors in KotS pre-gen characters?

Huh, I see, I was using the Ranger from here: http://sites.google.com/a/educatedgamer.net/4e-fans/Home/modules-1/pre-gen-character-sheets/KotS%2B8%2BPreGen%2Bv2.pdf?attredirects=0 I guess it's fan-made.

Compiled list of errors in KotS pre-gen characters?

Dilettante is the one that allows them to select another class's at-will as a per-encounter, right? There are definitely more, I already noticed several errors in the Elf Ranger.

Is there anything like a list anyone has compiled of errors in the KotS pre-gens?

    Mistakes in KotS pre-gen Ranger?

-It says the Ranger gets a +4 bonus on attacks with the longsword. Shouldn't it be +5 because of +2 Str and +3 prof bonus? -Shouldn't the Ranger have a -1 check penalty because of Hide armor? The skills don't seem to factor this in.

Another awesome scenario made feasible by minions

Finally, the old sneak-into-the-castle-to-find-the-hidden-plans/treasure/prisoner etc. can actually work without either always ending in combat, because the NPC guards are too strong and you can't silence them in one blow, or always be boring because they're low-level mooks that pose no threat.

    D&D 4E Sooo... 4e Video Games?

Don't misunderstand what I'm saying, but I think the 4e rules would work a lot better for video games than the past systems. Since everything is balanced into at-will, encounter, and daily powers it should be easier to interpret and integrate those elements than in past editions.
