Checking : Favored soul's spell DC is based off wis?

It seems pretty clear to me that in the case of favored souls, the idea was to create a character who's either good at offense, or good at defense, but not good at both. If you choose Cha as your higher stat, you get bonus spells, but your attack DCs are low, so you use your spells more for...

Newsflash: Blackguard on Nightmare gets a ticket...

Am I the only one who thinks this mini looks terrible? The Tundra Scout, on the other hand...I'll take ten, please.

Do You Prefer a Cinematic Combat System?

What is a cinematic system? My players and I take pains to describe our D&D combats cinematically. Is that the same thing?

What do you do before a gaming session ?

I tend to do a lot of last minute thinking about plot elements and such, maybe type up some NPCs, perhaps jot down some notes. I might frame a couple of specific scenes in my mind that are important to forwarding the plot, do a couple of "dry runs" to make sure I have an NPC's personality down...

Beguilers & Warmages can learn any spell

The feat is poorly worded, but there's an easy fix: The spell you can choose must already be on your class spell list. Wizards, then, wouldn't be able to use Extra Spell to pick up cure serious wounds, and the feat would be moot for warmages who already have access to their entire list...

Where do YOU steal your names from?

For humans, humanlike creatures (such as frost giants) and human society, I lift names from historical and mythological sources. For everything else, I tend to make up my own names.

    Oh no Conan just DIDNT!

Exactly. I'd rather they thought I was a nerd (Guilty!) than a Satanist.

    Oh no Conan just DIDNT!

If you have ever pretended to be anything other than a normal human living a mundane existence, then you're covered by the statement. :p

    D&D - historical or fantastic?

I'm a 5. I prefer at least a measure of gritty realism, even if it's only cultural or descriptive. :p

    Oh no Conan just DIDNT!

I think you guys are taking this a tad too seriously. We are geeks, right? Right. I'll let you in on a little secret: D&D will never be a "cool" hobby. We pretend to be elves, people.

The plane of shadow is the only transitive plane in my cosmology.

Best Class for a new player

Barbarian. Fighters are more challenging to play, since all those feats require knowing the rules to know what to do with them. Barbs are simple---point, kill. Sorcerer is also good.

    Is there a feat...

It hasn't led to a screaming horde of players clamoring to play rogues, so I figure it's not broken. I use a lot of big, crunchy monsters as bad guys---vampires and frost giants, for instance, are the campaign-driving villains IMC right now. What's a rogue going to do against a vampire in a...

    Is there a feat...

That's one category I couldn't rationalize. :) Corporeal undead, you could argue a Buffy approach. Dagger in the eye socket, that sort of thing. Constructs, gum up the gears with a deftly-placed dagger in the right joint. Sure. Plants...even a shambling mound has a "nerve center" in its torso...

How do I deal with a cheating player?

I would just ask him to explain his results each time one comes up that you don't understand. There's no need to be a jerk about it, just say--"Whoa, 40? How does a 4th-level spellthief get a 40 on a Hide check? Can you break down the numbers for me?" Also, it's your right as DM to be familiar...

    Is there a feat...

Not a feat, but a house rule. IMC, rogues can sneak attack ...corporeal undead at 7th ...constructs at 11th ...plant creatures at 16th Because there are way too many critters immune to sneak attack.

Is your D&D campaign a game or a story?

Pass. My players and I got tired of killing monsters and taking their stuff when we were in high school.
