Of gishes and arcane defencers and whatnot: Is 4th ed. language for everyone?

The funniest bit is that the term "gish" as related to githyanki military ranks referred solely to a fighter/magic-user 4/4, if my Fiend Folio isn't missing a few sentences. It's fascinating to see how such a specific bit of flavour has been blown up to such proportions (and gets argued about at...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

Lets not inspire one of the mods to close a thread opened by Morrus himself due to outbreaking hostilities. It starts to sound like the plenty of other threads that arose around the topic of "who may post here", and that's not helpful, as those threads have demonstrated.

The minuses of pluses, the pluses of minuses.

I just wonder if 4E will make it as easy to gain multi-racial abilities as well as multi-class abilities. I mean, come on...having to stack up templates to get those elf bonuses for a dwarf is a real klutzy way to create a dwarf who spent half his youth training with the elves because his elven...

Ah, okay, thanks for clearing that up.

    Heroic Classes

Heh, somehow I have this aftertaste of Midnight in my mouth right now...their heroic paths were an attempt to uncouple characters from magic item dependency, too. Sadly, I never got to play the game, but the concept looked interesting enough for the campaign setting. It might also fit well into...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

Just out of personal curiosity then...this part here ...does not say that the fanboy is a fanboy (= overdone but positive attitude about 4E) because he cares about 4E, and that this differentiates him from the hater, who is a hater (= overdone but negative attitude about 4E) because he doesn't...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

Right, because somebody can mindlessly LOVE something without any other reason than its existence and care for it, but HATE something mindlessly for no other reason than its existence and not care for it. Sorry, doesn't compute. Both sides care for the thing in question, otherwise there would...

Rich Baker confirms new look of Gnomes

Hmmm, so gnomes are fey-touched halflings in 4E? Kickass picture, by the way. You sure you didn't get an invitation from WotC by now?

The Tielfling and The Gnome: On the Set of 4th edition

Uhm...was this supposed to be funny? Mrs. "wannabe-ultra-cool super-bitch" meets Mr. "nerdy super-geek" and they face off with boring one-liners? "Bring it, Scruffy"? Although...if spread on the Cartoon Network and similar channels, it might bring more kids into the game again. Everything's got...

OK, we're gettng a little annoyed here!

Just speaking from personal experience here, but I guess that's what everybody here does...sometimes it's not about ignoring being the "easy way out". I've placed a few people on my ignore list as well since the whole 4E thing started. Mainly people that I had the continued impression that, no...

    R&C: Halflings...

It's kinda funny to read this discussion after having read that a chimpanzee, while being (on average) as tall and as heavy as a normal human, has roughly 5 times the upper body strength of a human. Five times. Raw muscle stength. Kinda funny, then to make such a fuss about halflings having...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

A nicely written post...just this little "stretch" falls flat if you check what the rules actually allow as an AoO...it includes Trip attacks, Disarming, and even Grappling (at least per SRD). I'd say it's a pretty big stretch to view a Grapple attempt as an AoO as an instinctive backhand swipe...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

Hmm, I think you hit the nail on the head there why I have some problems with the assumptions underlying D&D combat by now. It's probably just me, but it doesn't make sense to me to imagine a group of combatants to have their attention somehow spread all over their thread range. Doesn't jive...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

Then you don't have a problem with Concentration checks, but with some specific situations that don't make sense to you. ;) Just make a house rule: Concentration becomes a class skill for everybody. Most barbarians already do whatever they want in combat, since their d12-laden frames are not...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

Just to clarify...I wasn't talking about a fighter having two opponents and ignoring one of them, or having some sort of "spectator". I was talking about a fighter and his opponent simply standing in threat range to another pair of combatants (or a group, if you like). Happens often enough in a...

AOO's have to go, or be changed

Now I'd be curious why you wouldn't give a character who, in the middle of the fight against his opponent, wants to take a swing at a nearby chair he threatens the chance to waste an AoO on a harmless piece of furniture. I've got to add that I'd view any scene where it makes in-story sense to...

    Races and Classes--I has it!

And people said actual alignment languages were unrealistic...here you can see the effect of a lawful vs. chaotic conversation life and in color! (Kidding obviously...just couldn't resist. :D )

Is All Still Quiet on the SRD Front?

Nah, you simply uncovered Orcus' secret plan to do exactly as you posted, ruin WotC with the financial claims, buy the whole thing for $1, and get total control of D&D that way. ;) I guess having him on the 4E MM cover is a sign of things coming. Now where do you hide from a stymied...

Effects lasting until the end of the encounter, w00t!

People aren't missing that, rather they have experience with players who come up with (sometimes very weird) ideas to try and keep one encounter going on and on and on...you get the idea. And if you haven't met players yet to whom the DM's "No" simply means "try harder, I'm not convinced yet" no...

Unintended(?) Consequence of No More X-Mas Tree?

I don't know...I think rare magic is easier to be done than low magic, to be honest. Rare magic would, over the course of the campaign, result in every character posessing one, maybe two significant magical items (not limited in power, though, since it's not low magic), the frequency of truly...
