In 3.5 (in the monster manual at least) they're listed as supernatural.

    Grappling rules & beholders

For what it's worth as a DM I'd agree that as the beholder doesn't use any appendages to move it could still do so while grappled (presuming he was within his weight limit of course). Also, a beholder's flight is listed explicitly as an extraordinary ability, not just normal movement...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

Meanwhile, in Corlean, Welcome rangerjohn, I hope the SH pleases. ------------------ It was the beginning of the third quarter of the year, just after the Fall Festival. Winter was threatening to arrive early in the city of Corlean and there was chill in the air, but that didn’t stop the...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

On an interesting side note (for me at least). I apparently have approximately 150 pages worth of story hour (letter sized, Times, 12pt). That's kind of cool. My written game notes are 133 pages long (same settings), which doesn't include the handwritten combat logs. Which I also think is...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

The Task now Done Happy New Year. :p This is probably the last post for the week. The next installment actually veers away from the entire module for a little while. The party and myself both needed some time from the trolls so I pulled out a little product called 'Den of Thieves' and...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

A bazillion and one updates shortly. Apparently all the other SH writers are correct, you just have to sit down and write to get these posts out. :) Thanks for the praise and I'm glad my group is providing some ideas. The orc cave was a brutal fight, no other way around it. Especially...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

:D They were inherent bonuses, exactly like a book gives. Though in my game I allow the bonuses to stack up to a maximum of +5. It hasn't been a problem to date.

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

The Pillars of the World Ashimar crept forward through the darkened tunnel, trying to use the irregularities in the walls for cover. Three months of near constant danger had raised the new-made priest’s alertness to an uncanny level and he had learned to pay attention to what his senses told...

Detect magic vs. spell based invisibility.

And that all presupposes that the invisible creature doesn't move in that period of time. Otherwise after one or two rounds of concentrating on an area the DM may go "Oops. The magic is now gone and there's nothing in range now." The player can then scan a new area, but he has to go through...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

Interval Many weeks passed before the party of four started out again; but eventually they did start out, better armed and better prepared for the dangers ahead. On the day before Fall Festival, the celebration of the harvest, Ashimar, Kellron, Kestral, and Jallarzi left the small caves of the...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

A Council of the Wise The Library’s Council of Masters meets every third month, when both moons are high and full in sky, illuminating Avia’s Gift, the child-god’s shattered third moon. So on the ninth month of the thirty-second year of Emperor Jaz’aldrin’s reign, the Council of Masters met...

Voluntary Failing of a Saving Throw [BobRoe Stay OUT!]

How about Clairaudiance/Clairvoyance when the alarm goes off instead? Probably from a wand would be best given the casting time. This would allow the BBEG to see in all directions to line of sight, or to 10 feet if it's pitch black. edit: Just noticed that there's a range to it (though line...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

My pleasure, and I'm glad it was useful. :) Sorry for the delays, things got busy again and the post I had written didn't sound quite right, so I'm going to rewrite it. I'll be in a cabin all weekend without internet access or much else, so I should be able to find a couple hours to do some...

New rules of the game... what the?

Well, technically a troll can still use a medium-sized quarterstaff it doesn't have to resize to be useful. Of course there's that entire -2 penalty for an improperly sized weapon - but on the plus side, he gets to be a troll. ;) Looking at the to hit bonus though, it didn't get added in(+4...

Skill Levels - Too High or Am I High Handed?

Almost forgot to add: 1) Don't forget the practiacally impossible rule. If in your estimation it's only just barely possible with extreme luck, she'll need 10 ranks plus take a -20 circumstance penalty. I count convincing the bandit leader to stop his thieving ways and take up a more useful...

Skill Levels - Too High or Am I High Handed?

Sounds like an intriguing character concept. I'm running a Night Below game in which one of the players is doing something similar. Her 'courier' started out as a straight rogue (and still is in the story hour) who's goal was to be able to interact with everyone. Everyone. She cross-classed...

    D&D 3.x 3.0-->3.5 module, magic items resizing

As you say, if someone is already using/wearing the equipment that automatically determines the size. If the item was found I'd check the write-up for clues (like it was in someone's foot locker or hidden by a dwarf before he died) and take my cue from there. If there was still some...

Help adding spellcasting levels to a monster.

Glad to be of help. I just checked Morrus' links to the SRD - there's a section on Improving Monsters - it seems to have the relevant text and tables. As a side note, I just noticed that the DR for the Bhut is 3.0 also.
