Night Below - The Heroes and Villains

Change of plans. The two NPC's are staying behind to protect the keep. In the meantime the majority of my time (outside of work) has been to help convert book III of the series. Here's my favorite villain of Book III - she's only a bit player, but I'm quite proud of the conversion. Note that...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

Well - that was embarrassing - I think edited over the first post instead of replying. That was pretty silly. It's all fixed now though. Apologies if there was any confusion.

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

Garlstone Mine The Garlstone mine had been played out for over six decades. A few diehard men and dwarves had kept at picking at its depths even after the owners had pulled out, but it was barely enough to keep them fed and clothed. Old miners are forever filled with optimism about the next...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

It’s the Choices That We Make Kellron and his four companions rode towards Milbourne in high spirits. They had left Kupier’s farm that morning, having overnighted with the older Imperial Scout and his wife, Delilah. The older couple had treated them with grand hospitality and they themselves...

Any authors ever grow bored writing their story hours?

Here, Here. :D Thanks to everyone for the shared tips though. I'll add one more - do an installment from the villain's perspective every once in awhile, or even from one of the bystanders or minions. (edit: of course if you had read drnuncheon's post you'd have gotten this suggestion. ah...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

Ooof. Four weeks and no post. Apologies to those who read, but this isn't a post either. I have one started but other things call. I'll see if I can post an update by Friday.

Commune - Fixing it? Or losing it?

Like the others, I haven't found Commune as written to be unreasonable. The questions have to be yes/no/unknown - with a built-in failsafe, so if a priest asks a question where a yes/no may be misleading, he'll get up to five words to clarify. In return, the questions have to be asked all at...

    Is the shifter worth it?

One of my players has taken the shifter class - she wasn't complaining about the class in 3.0. With the 3.5 rules there were some groans but it hasn't stopped her from playing one; but then I grandfathered in most of the animal extraordinary abilities and she has the option of taking the...

    Return to Night Below

More random thoughts Book II If Carmararen rewards the party, she has the ability to trade some goods to get the magic scrolls and potions. Who is she trading with? In my world I decided that this community was a splinter of a much larger one not too far away. The derro: Where do they...

    Return to Night Below

Oh. One other thing. I dressed up the shrine to Jubilex a bit. Used a Svirnfneblin Wizard6/Oozemaster10 - or about that, I don't have my notes. Poor little Vog. He was just your average svirfneblin - insane, but average. Think Gollum from LoTR. He fed potions of haste and flying and...

    Return to Night Below

Heh. The Daphne reference was a scooby doo reference. Not sure why I was stuck on the scooby gang either, but it sounded funny at the time. :D I'm having fun running as-is and the players love the treasure compared to the other 3e game I'm running. It's not that big of deal as long as...

    Return to Night Below

Heh. Good hunting to you and your players. :p That said... I like the Return to... motif. I was a big fan of most of the modules in that genre. This promises to be fun for everyone if only because the players will have some personal investment. Keep in mind, based on Leopold's and my...

    Night Below

I can help brainstorm a bit. Both Leopold and I were hit by the Real-Life Virus, which causes 6 and 7 day work weeks. Pretty amazing considering that we're on opposite sides of the continent. Conversion-wise that means neither of us has been overly productive. I think we have about a third...

    Need Help Pricing Items

Not a problem. Note that these are just my best guesses. The gauntlet is the one I'm least sure about. One interpretation of the rules that I came up with made it slightly more expensive. The Hilt Clasp's biggest problem is how the costing can break down depending on whether it's used on a...

Seravin's Tales of the Night Below (Two Updates this Week - 07/24/07)

Trouble in Milbourne Latina. The Imperial Mother. Patroness of the Empire. The Defender. Beyond the Imperial Coronet, her symbol is a blue kite shield bearing an upright, flaming bastard-sword. It is said that the Imperial bloodline can be traced to Latina herself and thus draws their right...

    ECL & feats

Well the book doesn't quite contradict itself. As you noted, the bugbear example explicitly states that the epic rules work with ECL for epic attack and save bonuses. It doesn't state they apply to calculating anything else - such as feats or ability point increases. When the Bugbear hit an...

    Need Help Pricing Items

Here's my take and suggestions: Hilt Clasp Useable only on non-magical weapons. If put on a double-weapon, only affects one side. Can add an enhancement bonus to the weapon. Pricing: As the weapon effect plus perhaps 10%-20% premium because it's transferrable. Greater Hilt Clasp As a Hilt...

D&D 3.x 3.5 ECLs and drug use at WoTC

You're right, Hit Dice does add in to it. You always add the level adjustment to the hit dice of the monster. A fire giant is a 19th level character (15HD plus +4 lvl adjust) A minotaur would be equal to an 8th (6HD plus +2 lvl adjust) No drugs involved whatsoever. :) edited for tone
