D&D 5E (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

They've been moving to give sup dice to everyone (Krynn). It'll be sup dice. Its a mechanic that separates the boys from the men.

D&D 5E (2024) Upcoming One D&D: Unearthed Arcana 'Expert' Classes (Bard, Ranger, Rogue)

Calling it now: Warrior: Fighter Barbarian Monk. They'll all get maneuvers like BM/ ToB. Barbs will have tanky/ hit stuff hard manouvers. Monks will have speed/ mobility and fancy stuff. Fighters will have a bit of both. (please let this be true, and give these guys ToB stuff) Mage: Wizard...

    D&D 5E (2014) Alignment

There are many mechanical effects tied to alignment. So it's somewhat important. Its also -in game- important as there are literal Outer planes that correspond to alignments, and where you tend to go on death. Players can choose whatever alignment they want. I simply note what alignment they...

D&D 5E (2014) Discussing Worldbuilding: Why Don't The Mages Take Over The World?

Because there is a secret cabal of omnipotent and omniscient Kobold Wizards that exist outside of time and space, who suddenly appear to abduct any casters that try anything that could be a threat to their power. Pun-Pun (3.5e Optimized Character Build) - D&D Wiki Such casters are never heard...

RPG Evolution - D&D Tactics: Hikes

Australian. We have them too. Great Whites are the main culprits, then Bull sharks. And the Saltwater Crocs up north. Dont want to mess with any of them. Plus... venomous things. Lots of venomous things. No big land predators (other than the aforementioned Crocodiles).

RPG Evolution - D&D Tactics: Hikes

As an Ultralight hiker IRL (and Soldier before that) I find the encumbrance rules in 5E hilarious. 30lbs on your back slows even a fit and strong person down (a lot), and carrying it all day long is bloody tiring.

D&D General Tell me about Birthright

Ed Stark wrote Birthright. Martin lifted his name for GoT.

    D&D 5E (2014) Frighteningly Frightened

You did allow an opposed skill check to win the combat, and circumvent HP and the Monsters CR etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I wouldnt have.

    D&D 5E (2014) Frighteningly Frightened

Hilariously most undead are not immune to Exhaustion either. So much for your Necromancer working your Zombies around the clock.

    D&D 5E (2014) Gaining shield proficiency

There is also that UA feat as well. It's better because you dont need light armor or any prerequisites, and it has some extra benefits as well.

    D&D 5E (2014) Frighteningly Frightened

Yes to both. It's not immune to either condition.

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

Hyperbole. Most encounters in 5e are generally over inside of 5 rounds. Seeing as my players are on the clock (they get roughly 6 seconds to declare actions when their turn comes up or they take the Dodge action and their turn ends), combats rarely take more than 20 minutes to resolve.

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

Rubbish. See my post above. I can chuck an adventuring day with 10 x V-Hards if I want to.

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

Yes of course I have. Spit over several sessions. Heck a standard medium to large dungeon level has 12 encounters (including traps, environmental challenges, wandering monsters and so forth). White Plume Mountain for example. When I ran that adventure, the PCs were advised that the Wizard...

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

No, they dont. If you want to throw 6 x 12 encounter 6 short rest days at the party, 6 x single encounter days at the party, and 6 x 7 encounter 2-3 short rest days at the party, only 1/3 of your days are balanced. 2/3 are not. Overall balance is maintained though.

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

Of course they are. DnD is a resource management game. Players will naturally seek to nova and rest and abuse the 5MWD. Enter Doom clocks. Let them know early they're on the clock, and let them self police.

D&D 5E (2024) Inspiration From Nat 20 Will Bog Down The Game

I think it should be generated on a natural 1. Compensation prizes are always nice, and its a good way to help out a player who is just rolling crap (and we we've all been there).

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

Yeah, and some of those days will feature less encounters, and favor the long rest based classes (casters and paladins). On those days, they get a chance to shine. And some of those days will feature a lot of encounters, and a lot of short rests favoring the Fighters, Monks and Warlocks. On...

    D&D General 6-8 encounters (combat?)

For the seventh time (please read this this time). every day doesnt have to be balanced. Overall balance is maintained as long as you hit the 6ish encounter / 2 short rest baseline as a median. Example (A group of PCs going from 1st to 5th level): AD 1: Medium dungeon level, random that...
