tattoos, spikes, punk, and goth in D&D images?

I'm resigned to the fact that the current artwork is the result of cutting costs at WotC. Cheap artwork means more cartoony pictures and NO background scenery. Apparently, artists that can draw landscapes cost more money. *edit* Mostly, I'm thinking of figures as seen in the WotC galleries...

What do you do with a cheating player!

Chances are you knew what needed to be done before you ever posted here on the boards. Just be honest, and continue to be a friend. Everything else will happen as it should.

    Chicago Gameday - The Aftermath

I'll throw in my thanks to all the GMs and prize donors. Got me a cool Gamer's Bag complete with EN World logo, and a PDF from Creative Mountain Games! The size of the bag just proves I don't own enough dice. And I got 125GB of room for more PDF's! Even though things were looking lonely here...

    Chicago Gameday - The Aftermath

*OT* Yeah, it was mine. I started doing this with post-it notes at first, but then I saw these "flags" at an Office Depot store and decided it was worth making it more permanent. The tabs I use are from Redi-tab, and they come in both short and long shapes. You'll want a marker that is...

Piratecat's dungeon design: fun with tesseracts!

I remember seeing a movie called Hypercube. It wasn't that great a movie, but it might be worth a look for those that are interested in some of the ways it can be used.

    Problems getting in

We have a Meta category for threads about the boards themselves. But, to answer your question, try removing any old cookies, and make sure your browser is set to store cookies for longer than just a week. Cookies are how websites remember who you are when you login, but it is also how...

Why is Medieval fantasy the standard?

My feeling is that mythical stories are the oldest and most often passed down through the ages. They also have the most mystery and room for interpretation. Mythical stories are even older than many religions, or have become ingrained into them. Myths are almost always born in a "medieval"...

How many of you have run or played in a solo-campaign?

Remember that everybody has a social network. I find this side of things often lacking in many campaigns, but as long as the party is networked together it usually works out well enough. For a solo campaign, however, it's especially important to include NPCs. Family, friends, mentors...

    Converting 3.5e back to 3e

WotC never put out a "conversion" manual. It's more like a list of things they changed (without specific details) so they could sell their 3.5e books. If you have 3.0 and you use this update, it won't leave you, "up to date" with 3.5e by a longshot.

What skills are good for all PCs to have?

Escape artist is good for anyone who doesn't want to be grappled. It's a cross-class skill for wizards/sorcerers, but it can make a big difference at a time when a spellcaster is at his weakest.

What skills are good for all PCs to have?

I would add bluff and sense motive to the list. Not everyone can afford to have them if they're cross class, but if you tend to interact with a lot of influential NPCs, sense motive can be precious.

you get one bonus - assign it where?

I would apply it to the weakest saving throw. Typically FORT, or WILL because those have more detrimental effects from spells or poisons than most REFL saves. I think at higher levels it's more about the saving throws sometimes than it is the physical damage. In many instances a single spell...

    How to paint plastic?

That forum has always been more of a gallery than an advice forum for minis. Use a paint primer and acrylic paints. I prefer paints from Vallejo, but if those are not available in your area you can usually find Games Workshop paints or Reaper paints in any hobby store that sells minis. Point...

As a DM do you secretly enjoy the obnoxious player who pisses everyone else off?

I know somebody that games like that. I hope the two of you will be happy getting each other killed over selfish motivations, and making absolutely no progress towards anything remotely like an interesting story. :D Really, most characters should want to accomplish an objective of some sort...

Character suggestions for a solo campaign

For solo campaigns, I really like rogues. Rogues are diverse enough in skills that they can do a lot of things without needing help from other classes. Sneaking and bluffing can be especially useful in an urban setting where often you want to stay as inconspicuous as possible. The use magic...

    Confusion about the Druid class

Well, there is that druid spell that turns metal into wood that is just as hard as metal. Thus, you could turn a chain shirt into a darkwood shirt and continue to cast druid spells. Then the distinction lies in the list of "prohibited" weapons/armor. Is it really the metal that is prohibited...
