No Initiative Order: How Do You Do It?

Initiative: It's not just baggage from D&D; it's baggage from tabletop wargames of the 1960s onward, as well, both the chits on map and minis wargames. Also, note that initiative isn't always for combat. Many TTWG use initiative for movement; in side by side, it's often Move in low to high...

    Do You Care About Cosmology?

Cool. So far, at least. Does it affect the design? If not, it's wasted, IMO. If I'm playing a cleric, or if the cosmology includes accessible planes, yeah, I want a nice precis, and, ideally, more to read later If it is included past a couple paragraphs, yes. Never had the beverage... but...

Where’s The Deathstalker RPG? Part 1

The only things it had going for it were nearly/partly nude folk, and some of the fights. It's far from the worst of the Sw&So subgenre... but it's not nearly the best.

Oath Hammer - new d6 dice pool fantasy rpg

Several different kinds of dice pools.... Roll a number of dice by scores, total, compare to TN (WEG Star Wars, D6 system, T&T, M!M!) Roll a number of dice by scores, count successes, compare successes to TN (WoD, Arrowflight 1e, Burning Wheel, Mouse Guard) Roll a number of dice by scores...

No Initiative Order: How Do You Do It?

I've played several variant initiatives... As noted elsewhere today, FFG Star Wars has slots for each side, but no individual owns a given slot; their side does. Flexible within that. Jackals has different numbers involved, but otherwise works the same. players often discuss who goes when...

    Minimalist and One Page RPGs

I'll note that not many consider Classic Traveller to be rules light despite the physically small size... It's pretty crunchy, and fairly procedural. Most claiming it to be rules light are actually ignoring the skills chapter, where there's a special case rule for most of the skills. Its...

The writing team pretty much tries to beat one over the head with that obligation Yep! Let's not forget the option on page 89 in the sidebar: rounds are optional, and 3 spotlights per round per PC; the GM gets them only from the PC's rolls (directly, when they roll a fear, and indirectly, if...

What Does a "Successful" RPG Look Like?

Var 1: Living wage for the publishing & design staff. Var 2: widely played despite not providing a living wage Var 1: Traveller (Mongoose edition), Pathfinder Var 2: Savage Worlds.

    Minimalist and One Page RPGs

No. No. For people very unlike me. it gets just as much, and just as deserved, hate. Deep7's 1PG line are not actually 1 page - most are a dozen pages, including adventures, but the player rules and the character sheet are on one side of one page, and the GM rules typically 1-2 sides. They're...

Do you know how Ableist that comes across? Most of the people I game with have trouble enough reading the GM, let alone the rest of the table. Half my current players are on the spectrum. My kids are on the spectrum, so am I. Reading the table isn't easy for me; it's the most tiring part of...

I've had a dozen players over the years from whom this was a problem in games with turns. Most later became gamemasters. (Mind you a dozen of over 400). This doesn't count the 6 kids at a neighboring table before the lockdown. The GM, who was a novice GM, asked for a solution... I suggested a...

Seraph adequately covers less obnoxious paladins and combat-capable clerics... I would expect proper priests to be eventually added in a splat, either as a third subclass of Seraph, or a new class. I kind of expect a splat with the classes' domains being X and X+2 modulo 9, while the corebook...

They thought of that... Check the downloads page for it - there's a pdf of extra sheets - two of which are card-equivalent sheet. (Additional-Sheets-Daggerheart-May212025.pdf p6-7) Said file also has several sheets that are clearly GM screen material, plus pre-filled multiclass sidecar sheets...

    WoD renaming, White Wolf returns

Yeah, I figured. Last I saw it on Palladium's schedule was before Rifts launched. There is the MegaDamage Rifts Mechanoids... Ugh. But seriously, the Trilogy sourcebook is the original 3 comic sized in a modern palladium layout - ie, mostly usable. But all the original art is in there, too.

Games you need to go outside your normal group to play

Not really. She's been in games I've no interest in playing, too. Pathfinder, for example.

I've written my own discord die-roller, so when I get closer to running, I can refactor the code a bit... and include a DD implementation giving the hope/fear and advantage/disadvantage handling.

Do you buy new versions of TTRPG games when you haven't had time to play the older version sitting on your shelf?

It's been working for 50 years... and it's clearly working still, with the speed at which Alien Evolved Edition funded.

I never use physical dice online. ALL rolls are in view of the group. It's a matter of fairness and trust. I've known way too many who will cheat on dice rolls if their dice are not visible to others, so I never trust any rolls I cannot see. More importantly, I've had too many players get upset...
