They work fine for me, I've been using them for decades. Honestly, I I'm not too concerned if something is - in general - good game design. It just has to work at my table.

I think that level limits might be (sort of) balanced in an "open table" campaign in which players have a stable of characters. I've personally dropped them very quickly.

I know that I'm in the minority here, but I'm in no hurry to hear about the 2026 books. There are two starter sets coming out soon, then two FR books and then the Eberron book. Dragon Delves is still recent. I'll think about future releases later on.... :p

I find alignments as descriptors useless; as such, I don't use them in 4e or 5e. I use them in AD&D as cosmological factions which also have in-game effects: class restrictions, spell effects, magical items, etc.
