It wasn't WotC's property anymore, they had no right to do anything other than ask nicely to buy it back. I think people are going to keep banging on this issue for as long as apologists keep making excuses for WotC.

This is pretty embarrassing for wotc. They should have released a full 5.5srd before the rulebooks went to print, so that the community could have spotted these silly errors in advance.

It will necessarily have to force the narrative. Preventing a premature end to the game should be a no. 1 priority.

Instead of trying to find the perfect balance in combat encounter between too easy and too hard, the rules should be geared towards the player characters surviving even if they lose. Let them flee or be taken prisoner instead of having a TPK, then it doesn't matter so much if the DM misjudges...

I'll take that as a "no" ;) The updated spells are pointless to have by themselves, even if they are free. Anyone who actually wants to play D&D 2024 with D&D Beyond is going to buy the 2024 PHB and get access to the spells that way.
