They should have 'zoomed in' on the top left corner for the Heroes book and use the same scene for it

paying $60 more for a bundle than for the two (digital) books on their own makes the additional content a lot of things, but free is not one of them they are not free inside the bundles either, they are about $20 per DLC

what exactly is it that a backer got more than what they paid for? Getting material before the final version is pretty common

my thoughts are that I expect them to be available outside the bundle too. If this turns out to be wrong, bad on WotC

no, it takes more than that, but it would have been a step in the right direction, yet they did not even take that one, unfortunately good, I do not really want any of that anyway ;) Will wait and see what others have to say, would be more interested in the generic version, so have some time…...

Diversification is good, they are better off not having all eggs in one basket. I would not see this as necessarily meaning they are distancing themselves from D&D

you said ‘technology’, not ‘talent pool’. I don’t disagree that there are talented artists around today as well. You get a hard disagree that early AD&D (i.e. the pictures in your post) used any of them however, TSR could not afford them at the time

sorry, what? The technology has not really changed all that much when it comes to painting and printing pictures. What has changed is TSR's / WotC's art budget

I agree with most of what you wrote here, apart from maybe what exactly the chance of failure should be. Many of the replies to the OP sounded like it is their own damn fault for even getting into combat however, that they should have known better than to do that and that failure at a check is...

I am not sure how that even works, aren’t the players deciding what room they go in next? the ‘characters are inept and should have a 50% chance to be killed by one hit from a goblin’ sounds like the system to me, not just a bad DM
