D&D is small enough for them to be able to hide a decline for a while at a minimum. Not that they had to, it grew by around 10% according to some number crunchers on Alphastream’s podcast

I don’t think so either, but I have no good explanation for this difference at all. It’s not a new CR season, I doubt it was marketing (none of the books were heavily discounted early on, WotC made sure of that by categorizing them as games)… it’s just an unexplained oddity, with the best...

I assume in the same order as they were released, so PHB first… that should be true for all three, they all had a two week early access phase

I assume they do, but not that this explains the difference. For 2014 there were around 1.8 PHBs per DMG, now there are 0.06, that is far too much of a swing. Also, wouldn’t they buy the DMG and MM there too?

I believe it is for levels 1 and 2, so definitely shorter than LMoP

I didn’t think nefarious / vote spamming (don’t you need to have bought it from them to vote?), I was more thinking of the number of votes correlating to number of sales, ie the PHB selling significantly less than DMG or MM, not that I have an explanation for that

the 2014 PHB has 54k votes, the 2024 PHB has 2k. Compare that to the 2024 DMG and MM at 30k votes each… wonder why the PHB has so few (for 2014 the DMG also has 30k votes…) Read into that what you will ;)

I have seen plenty of posts that gave it a 6 or higher, probably more than for lower scores (not that I counted them). Also, if people wanted to detract, they would vote 1 or 2, not 4

Shadow of the Weird Wizard is my system of choice, ToV if it ‘needs’ to be a 5e-like / 5.5 equivalent.

and I ignore that because everything D&D ends up having a score of 4.8 give or take +/- 0.1 and there is certainly more variance than that… incidentally that would make the 5.5 books among the worst rated 5e products though (but you are off, just checked, they sit at 4.7 and 4.8, just like...
