D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

that doesn’t sound at all like what you wrote in your previous post. I agree that they should not spend many pages on that, but objectively describing the evils of slavery and whatever else is going on in the DS history will / should result in a description in which that evil is reflected as...

D&D 5E (2014) Lord of the Rings 5E Is Coming Next Month

This could go either way I believe, releasing a new version offers the opportunity for the 3pps to release a lot of updated material and for WotC to make money from it a second time. As long as 5.x is selling well, there won’t be a 6e. Once that is no longer true, the 3pp stuff will also not...

D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

presenting evil as evil is a neutral stance… having the characters oppose an oppressive system that is built on slavery is not really a problem, DS did that in 2e already if you need to ‘both sides’ slavery so you can feel better about playing a slave master in Dark Sun then maybe you should...

D&D 5E (2014) Lord of the Rings 5E Is Coming Next Month

wouldn’t the same designers that release stuff for 5.5 then release it for 6e? What would you gain?

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

they both describe a creative vision of the setting sure. But one then says ‘but add whatever your player wants to it’ (“You might be the only one of your kind in the world, but there is no reason you can’t play the character you want to play.”) while the other says nothing. If you do not see a...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

in FR they focus on what, 5 regions? The DS can capture the whole setting instead. I still would prefer two books for the setting. Worst case you have one book with all the player and DM setting material and a full adventure in the second book.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

of course they could, but that is not the point. The 2e text actively discourages other races, the 5e text actively encourages it. If we were to go by what a DM can do, then the actual text would be irrelevant and we would have no basis to judge anything on

Critical Role to Use D&D 2024 Rules For Campaign Four, Expands to Three Tables and Thirteen Players

not sure I understand your math. Cheapest Ferrari = 250k, 1M per year * 2 years = 2M, let’s say 50% is taxes, that still leaves 1M. I don’t think his annual expenses currently are around 350k… and this does not take into account any money he makes outside CR either Given that this is a new gig...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Hasbro is, WotC is not, and if it weren’t for WotC, Hasbro would be in deep financial trouble by now, so whatever Hasbro is doing is not working so great

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I know, but strong is a relative term, I don’t think it could maintain 5e’s level of success for anywhere as long, and WotC won’t be satisfied with CoC’s level of success Guess we will see, I am hopeful they will not just keep tinkering around the edges for another 20 years ;)

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I do not give it more than 50/50 chances (at best) to make it another 20 years, but I admit that I am basically pulling that number out of thin air

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I guess that depends on how you feel about the 2024 edition… I was underwhelmed, all the good ideas did not make it in, and another 20 years of stagnation is not something I am looking forward to

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

sure, but people turned 12 the last 50 years too, and D&D sales were not either flat or growing for most of that time. I would not count on 5e being around for another 20 years

and reading old tomes and papyri does not either, so I guess no one does and we can throw out the caster classes
