The Battle Continues Over "Childish Things"

I think people look at hobbies like playing sports for real, collecting/shooting firearms, collecting and working on classic cars as more mature than sitting around a table pretending to be an elf. A crappy golfer will look up to Jordan Speith and fantasize about winning the Masters decked out...

The Battle Continues Over "Childish Things"

Gunsmoke rules. I miss the shows where the protagonist wasn't just a slightly less scumbaggy person than the antagonists...but back to the point of the thread. And is saying "well the adults of today are the ones who grew up and still love D&D, dolls, Wonder Woman comics, and My Little Pony"...

    Doctor Who (FASA)

they are playing it at Garycon so maybe I'll try to get in the game.

Shatner, Wheaton & More In D&D Themed Big Bang Theory Episode

Comparing the D&D episodes of Community to what I've seen of this, its to me its plain which one is laughing at the D&D players and which one is laughing with them. IMO, YMMV. Obviously not a fan of this show but its not due to portrayal of D&D.

The Battle Continues Over "Childish Things"

I'm not sure its a totally incorrect perspective. In my dad's day you "grew up" and got into cars and bikes, often went into the military, played poker and card games instead of "kids" games. You had kids and a family early in your 20's, and left behind the trappings of youth for the most part...

What are the biggest RPG crimes?

To me metagaming is just the outcome of players playing a game and using what they know, assuming we are not talking about replaying a module. But even then what fun is replaying a module if its plot heavy and full of things that past knowledge make trivial? But anyway I hate it when a DM...

    Doctor Who (FASA)

I've got that but never played it.

Observations on matching "One vs. Many" combat mechanics to cinematic combat

As a DM i'm not trying to replicate another medium, I'm trying to make the fight fun in the game system. If I told the players that they couldn't gang stomp the badguy since it wouldn't be cinematic I'd get laughed at and as a player I'd be very unhappy with not getting attacks when I can...

    Remembering DC Heroes

My favorite superhero game as a youth, I had 1e and still have the 2e books I think. A much better system than FASERIP Marvel but I was always more of a Marvel fan back then. Could handle Superman and Robin pretty easily. 3rd Ed was the same but slightly tweaked. Between this and AMSH we...

What are the biggest RPG crimes?

For me its cheating, not informing the group that you are going to miss, being unable to go 5 minutes without launching into a rant about the President/politics, checking out of the game when its not your turn.

Things your table should do, but doesn't do- The Fun v. Efficiency Thread

Most D&D backpacks are an extra dimensional space staffed by a gnome who hands you the exact item you need.

2019 Pogre's Miniatures and Models - Printable Scenery Winterdale Water Mill

I have some of the Dungeonstone stuff, which is just hirst arts molded stuff, and need to order some more to make larger dungeons.

    Accidentally Attacking "Good" Monsters

If they didn't need killing they wouldn't have looked so evil is my motto.

The Mountain Goats Announces Dungeons & Dragons-Inspired Album

I wouldn't use Eluveitite either, or death metal. Flexor's theme song would be Hail and Kill by Manowar most likely. Maybe Victory is mine by Virgin Steele. Somethign epic and powerful and dripping with glory.

Things your table should do, but doesn't do- The Fun v. Efficiency Thread

The lack of summoning is a huge negative for me. Honestly the druid is kind of lame, which is why I have to amuse myself by summoning hogs and carrying them around. I want to summon waves of minions.

Things your table should do, but doesn't do- The Fun v. Efficiency Thread

For us its probably cut back on the shooters, which leads to the amazing plan falling apart totally on the first round 90% of the time. In the 5e game I play I use a miniature someone found that is a commoner with a hog under one arm. So of course I always summon a hog with my druid and carry...

The Mountain Goats Announces Dungeons & Dragons-Inspired Album

Other of bands do this. Check out Gygax. And yes for me classic and power metal is the soundtrack for RPG games. When working on games stuff its Manilla Road, Virgin Steele, Manowar, Omen, Blind Guardian, Visigoth etc.

What is your way for doing Initiative?

We just all roll, and the group that beat the monsters goes, then the bad guys, then the rest of the party. We don't track order in those groups.

    Sherman Best Tank of WWII?

The Germans had a lot of fun gadgets that were expensive to build, fuel hogs, and hard to keep operational. Later in the way they had steel quality issues affecting armor as well. 40% of the fancy armor was not operational later on on any given day in the field. But yeah a Sherman in one on...
