I think something like this with a D20 setting on a 1 instead of a computer would be kinda cool.

Don't forget to look on the WOTC web site and here at Enworld. As for some good free high level adventures there aren't any that I know of but you might consider going for some pdf's from differnt websites they can be pretty cheap.

Well if you have a new DM who lets you start with one magic item (happened once to me) and can talk him into a ring of animal friendship then you can have a small pack of dire wolves following you.
