I've almost always played in and run games where encumbrance was important, but not nitpicky. In 5E it is one thing that keeps Strength from being a dump stat, and we use the variant rules. It works for my game, and I know my game isn't for everyone.

I saw a lot change over the more than 3 years of alpha testing. For the most part, I've only become more impressed with 5E. There are only a few, minor changes I am less fond of. And, no I won't elaborate, as we are still bound by the NDA.

I would assume that more than just a "stamp of approval" is needed, like maybe an expert check for accuracy or completeness or something..

It is to be noted that WotC is being held to a much higher level of accuracy about release dates than any of the other gaming companies. The much criticized DMG delay was only a couple of weeks, and we were told of the delay about a month out. This for a release date (actual day of the month)...

Good expansion to the rules with very helpful new Complication charts. Just wish the article had mentioned the original DMG page numbers, pp252-255.

What is expected in a conversion guide? Just one generic guide to work for every module ever written? A guide for each editon's module. A guide for each module? Not every class or race or monster is yet in 5E, so we need different substitutions. Most monsters are either stronger or weaker than...

I agree that I would like to see the conversion documents last month. I would also like to see Wizards publish monthly short modules. Possibly in addition to printing updated classic modules. But I can only hope. I do know that WotC is working on something beyond PotA, though I don't know what...

You are assuming the jury person has nothing better to do when not at the courthouse than approve the conversion docs. We don't know what other responsibilites (s)he has that might be more important, like possibly the next (unanounced) 5E book, or maybe a family. It's much easier to believe it...

Try to read an entry or two in the Monster Manual. Not the stat block, but the information about the monster. That gives a good indication how they are approaching the game, where story is at least as important as the mechanics.

Battlefront is the company, they make Flames of War, which is rules and 15mm minis for WWII combat. Battlefront acquired Gale Force 9 several years ago. I don't remember if it was before or after GF9 started to make the vinyl D&D maps.

You've got me beat! I'm just 66, but you and I started playing and DMing about the same time. I'm surprised no teen DMs. I know several, even a pre-teen DM or 2. I guess they don't spend much time on the boards.

I would not allow it if another player was a warlock. As for overall balance, I think having the wizard attuned to an imp or such would work. And the higher level familiar could always still break the bond, just like with the warlock
