    The Official Elemental Evil Announcement

The WotC screen has nothing to do with the success or failure of the GF9 screen. I was shown a preproduction copy of the WotC screen at GenCon. It looked about the same as the Wizards screen now on the store shelves, though I think some of the charts were changed.

D&D 5E (2014) RE: Tarasque vs. 5th lv. Wizard scenario - how does Wizard know to use Acid Splash?!?

Please forgive me if this has already been said, but I'm getting into this discussion late, and I have not waded through all 10 pages of discussion. The problem I have with the tarrasque is less with its lack of range attack and more with its mobility. ??? It lumbers along in plain sight, slower...

    D&D 5E (2014) A new alignment: Leutral

Read the entire entry. I think someone got carried away with the alliteration.

So What's In The New DM Screen?

Now that is a good idea. I'm going to make a reference screen strictly for prepping my game. Would sure cut down on the page flipping.

D&D 5E (2014) Negative Hit Points & Dying. I think I may have been playing it wrong. Please help.

So you must be very careful if you drop to 0 hit points to not fall on top of the the bowl of kibbles. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Negative Hit Points & Dying. I think I may have been playing it wrong. Please help.

Except you don't accumulate negative HP. You are either in positive HP, 0 HP, or dead. Massive damage (further damage after 0 in any single attack greater than or equal to your HP maximum) will kill you outright.

    D&D 5E (2014) POTION OF FLYING

Hmmm. This brings up another question. Do you have to keep the sword of flying in hand to continue flying?

D&D 5E (2014) Negative Hit Points & Dying. I think I may have been playing it wrong. Please help.

There are no negative HP. But each time you take damage while at 0, you gain an automatic failure when you take the damage (2 failures for a crit).

    D&D 5E (2014) POTION OF FLYING

I think for spell, scroll, or spell device, if caster loses concentration, spell ends. If non-casting flyer was target of spell, flyer would get another concentration check at end of his turn to regain control.

So What's In The New DM Screen?

Wrong chart. For Quick Finds: 7. Magic herbs 9. Monster parts 10. Secret message 11.Signet or insignia 12. Tome

    D&D 5E (2014) POTION OF FLYING

I can see a logical reason for flying to somewhat need concentration. Whether you are using natural ability, a spell, scroll, potion, flying carpet, ring, sword, or broomstick, you must maintain some control of you movement. Failure to maintain control could potentially mean straight line...

D&D 5E (2014) Why I'm grateful for our current magic item system.

Borrowing a page from the playtest, I plan to make many of the "standard" + weapons and armor semi-attunable. For example, at first the sword is merely a +1 sword usable without attuning. But when conditions are met (level, race, class, bloodline, whatever) the item can be attuned to yield more...

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

How does a person "retrain" a stat to be lower? I mean, other than lingering injuries.

Then don't use them in your campaign.

D&D 5E (2014) Weapons hidden in the MM

I can't remember exactly for 2E, but in 1E Fighters (and Rangers and Paladins) could be proficient in any weapon BUT at 1st level only proficient in 4 (or 3) weapons of the player's choice. Every couple levels the fighter could gain a new weapon proficiency. Other classes were more restricted on...

D&D 5E (2014) Weapons hidden in the MM

Possibly omitted because it would be an exotic weapon, and there are no rules (yet) for exotic weapons?

So What's In The New DM Screen?

That's where this panel is so useful. They major npcs you probably have all worked out. But sometimes the players start to interact with a minor npc unexpectedly. With these charts they don't need to know that they are going in a direction you weren't expecting. This can help you develop a new...

D&D 5E (2014) I believe the Greyhawk Campaign setting was a missed opportunity for Wizards of the Coast.

I am somewhat disappointed that Greyhawk is not the default setting as well, but I have mixed emotions about it. I hope they republish the Greyhawk setting, complete with the deities, for the benefit of those who do not have access to the classic material. And I would would also like to see...

    Deluxe Dungeon Master's Screen

5 out of 5 rating for Deluxe Dungeon Master's Screen The 5E DM Screen from WotC is a surprising treat. Of course it is a glossy sturdy 4-panel landscape screen. On the players' side is a nice action scene of an adventuring band facing off with a scar-faced red dragon. On the DM's side we see a...
