PHB2 Races = Mos Eisley Cantina

Even though they are now core races as they're in PHB2 you're still free to borrow a line from the Mos Eisley cantina bartender and say "We don't serve their kind here!".

    WoTC Interview with Rob Heinsoo

I'm playing in a few 4E games at the moment and despite being strongly inclined against the idea of a new edition when it was announced I've found a lot to like in this new edition. I don't think I like 4E better than previous editions but nor do I think it's worse; it's a different game with a...

    About Reveille

I wish the hoaxer the best in dealing with whatever situation it was that has led to him enacting what it now turns out was a lengthy and elaborate series of hoaxes. I am impressed by the administrators and moderators for their response to this situation. I've been in their shoes in another...

    4e Creatures, Not Scary?

High lethality situations with things like level drain and save or die effects are a legacy of older editions of D&D. Determining when to avoid certain fights and how to do so was part of the knack of adventuring because combat was often brutal. A lot of downtime between adventures was commonly...

1E Unearthed Arcana: Yea or Nay?

I liked it back when we were playing 1E but I'd only use parts of it now. I voted against but would have picked an in between option if there had been one. As a player I think my favourite thing from it was the Vocalize spell.

    Using Quasi-minions

I suppose an alternative to cutting down hit points would be leaving hit points as is and lowering defenses a bit, or some mixture of the two. Players would enjoy their characters succeeding on attacks more often, and fights would be over a bit quicker when they do so.

RPG comapnies and videogames - problems?

Another issue with licensing is that the game developer will often have to get their content approved by the owner of the property. Depending on the property and the owner that can be a painful process involving a lot of reworking of material until it is accepted. In the end it is sometimes the...

3.x ed.--While Playing My 15th Level Wizard Last Night, I Realized Something...

While his adventuring peers are busy adventuring the cloistered wizard has a lot of time to work on spells that are more suited to his way of life. I've always assumed that, with the option of wizards creating their own spells, the spells that appear in the manuals are a subset of the existing...

WotC acknowledges 4th Edition Not for Everyone?

I'd say they're just trying to include their customers who are not playing 4E, with the aim of selling more of their product. If the text had read "All Dungeon Tiles products are compatible with Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition." we'd have people howling about how they're being excluded for not...

Good post. I've recently come to the same conclusion.

What was your favorite 1e/2e magic item?

As a player: Boots of Striding and Springing As a DM: Bag of Devouring Honourable mention: Heward's Mystical Organ (so easy to misinterpret what this item is the first time you see it in the list)

    1E/2E/OD&D, 4E, and finally 3E

I'd put my group in this category. During the time of 3E the enthusiasm of my long term group for the game waned as we got bogged down in increasingly long and complex combats. Eventually we were meeting so infrequently that I considered the group more or less disbanded. We got back together to...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

I played my first session of 4E last weekend and I had a great time. There are issues, of course, but 4E is in good company there. It was refreshing to get a couple of combats in but only spend about one-third of our game session in combat, with the other two-thirds spent on exploration, role...

    Miniatures and my players

My point there was that after six months, or a year, or less for some, it will become Yet Another Use of Power X. It's new and shiny right now, but once that sheen wears off it'll be up to the players to keep it fresh for themselves. I don't think more mechanical detail or more tactical combat...

Words of Wisdom for those new to gaming

    Miniatures and my players

I don't think edition has much to do with it; the older edition equivalent of "I hit. You hit" in 4E is "I use X power. You use Y power", likewise movement and miniature shuffling when described as "I slide you 2 squares and follow you" is no more interesting to me than both of us standing...
