D&D 4E What period of D&D art would you most like to see 4E emulate?

I prefer late ADnD/2e. The color paintings, that is. 1e's art was too sketchy. 3e/3.5e is in many cases doesn't really capture the sense of struggle, danger and adventure - it's more just to look good, and doesn't often pull that off, either. There are some fine pieces, I just liked more...

    AD&D 2E Which 2e campaign setting should make a comeback in 4e?

Of all the alternative settings of 2e, Spelljammer caught my interest more. The trouble is that high level adventuring that involves depending on a big chunk of fragile wood tends to throw things out of wack. Spelljammer is probably best left in the 5-12 level range. But if the rules can be...

    So, about those halflings...

3e introduced a sleaker type of halfling. I prefer the more stubby, stocky types of 1e (as pictured in the 1e MM). Can't remember what they looked like in 2e. That might not be conducive to a Dex bonus, but still. I prefer a race that doesn't look like simply a smaller version of humans. I...

D&D 4E What will the paladin represent in 4e?

Paladins strike me as a cause type. There may be variations depending on the god they serve, but paladins should be allowed to crusade for an alignment as well. "I am a paladin serving neutrality, and I state my position by proclaiming... MEH!"

"So, you're using Bonetti's Defense against me, eh?"

pff, beaten to the not left-handed reference.

    Osyluth, not Bone Devil

An Osyluth is charging you. A what? Bone Devil. Oooooh.

D&D 4E What do you think should be the primary source of inspiration for 4ed flavor?

I chose DnD tradition since so many aspects of it borrows from literature and mythology and makes it something game-able. I don't really go for the "new and creative ideas" because everyone has their own new ideas, and they are all over the spectrum of widely acceptable. As long as the new...

    D&D 4E Who's going to dump WoW for 4E?

Dump a MMORPG for tabletop? Why? They are two different games, two different experiences. If a person wants to play an MMORPG, and they want to play tabletop, they play both (and slow everyone else down by talking about WoW instead of contributing to the game, but that's the group's problem...

    Hope?

Those kinds of challenges aren't edition specific, though. So if products in 4e adopt challenges that are more widely praised, that's a credit to the writers, not the edition.

    Design and Development: Cosmology

I preferred the dual ghost-like existence of the Ethereal and Astral, both touching all of the Material Plane but not each other. The Ethereal leads to elements, the Astral leads to the Outer Planes. Now we have the Astral Sea, which leads to the realms of the gods, yet the Elemental Tempest...

"4th Edition will assume roughly 10 encounters per level"

With more PC power at 1st level, it's likely there will be a lot more hp chewing in 4e encounters. So 10 encounters per level is fine by me, after 8th level in 3e you have to work to get those 13 encounters over with anyway.

    Why so many changes?

It seems to me that 4e is attempting to take the 3e mechanics that simplified the system but at the same time made it more complex (simplified by providing concrete rules and abilities but complicated by having SO MANY of them), and make them more streamlined. That at least takes care of the...

    Warlock?

I'll be interested in dinking around with the warlock class, since I never picked up the sourcebook for it. I pictured them as a lesser wizard that never runs out of spells. I haven't had a chance to find out how they compare. My only experience with them was in Neverwinter Nights 2.

What About Dragons? (NOT the highest-level monster?)

I would guess that the base dragon design isn't going to change that much, so they see no need to talk about it. That, or they just haven't gotten to mentioning it yet.

Can WotC really set "Core" to what they want?

I'll be less likely to buy 4e adventures after they add more core books, then. I guess the online adventures won't be so useful either. That is, unless I can still somehow refer to what I need without having to buy more hardcovers. I was willing to do that for 2e, for a time. But not anymore.

    D&D 4E 4E Devils vs. Demons article

So, Elemental Tempest is the DnD equivalent of the Big Bang? Hmm. I'm not sure I like that. I guess I'll have to wait and see. As vague as 1e was about the nature of things, it allowed me to adopt my own internal recognizable interpretation of how planes and creation work, even though I have...

Who seriously believes this will still be D&D anymore?

It's going to be harder than you think to tear the DnD spirit out of any version of it, honestly. Maybe if they did away with all the iconic creatures and items, but we can just put those back in...

    Changelings in The PHB? (Vote)

I think the ability to change form (druid aside, with their mid-level thousand faces ability) belongs in a book other than the PHB.
