Alright WotC, fess up...who came up with "Emerald Frost"?

Better than Amber Snow, I guess.

Which implementation of wizards' implements do you prefer?

Neither. It doesn't much matter at this point. Wizards, as usual, dumped half information on us, leaving us to speculate.

    New Design: Wizards...

Well, changing from four implements to three might satisfy those that for whatever reason find 3 to be a more mystical number.

    Transporting Orbs

Just pluck out a beholder eye and use that. Sovereign glue might be useful as well.

Which spells do you usually imagine linked to an orb, staff or wand? (Tome optional)

Without trying to remember the article: Orb: Divination, caster-centered area-protection effects Staff: Big, flashy, violent displays Wand: Small scale targeting effects, surgical and tactical Tome: Uh, hmm... information based spells, but that falls under divination, doesn't it. Perhaps...

    New Design: Wizards...

I'm fairly certain that a party of characters will function optimally with the expected amount of magic items for a given level, and that is how Wizards will be balancing the encounter levels. A party lacking magic will have a tougher time, but I'm guessing will have a better chance to survive...

    New Design: Wizards...

I hope I don't start thinking too heavily about getting a +2 tome, +3 wand, +1 staff and +4 orb. Less reliance on magic items!!! The linky no worky, by the way. EDIT: Hmm, Wizards' site is down, that's why. Well, if this is how it will work, I'll be targeting some items on enemy casters...

D&D 4E WHat should be random in 4E?

I've had problems with random PC abilities (too high!), but random PC hit points at least makes them somewhat personal. Saving throws, ability checks, attack rolls and damage should be random. They make up the challenges that PC's face.

Humans as the most common race?

I don't know, gnomes make excellent wizards (nice hp), half-orcs make great fighter/barbarians, elves make great rangers. If you focus on the abilities you want and ignore the ones you don't need for a build, other races are better suited for a purpose.

Psionics/Oriental Adventures in their own books, or in PHB*, future core books?

My gut tells me they belong in their own books (Psionics, Oriental). The PHB II and DMG II pattern seems to introduce newer optional ways of playing the core game, not simply introducing new classes, feats, and abilities that can be applied to the core.

    Gnomes got the SHAFT!

There will be a recommended Gnome race/feat build the very day the PHB hits the shelves. Actually, there will probably be like 20 of them and everyone will argue for weeks over the right one to use.

What's the best way to adapt a setting to a new edition?

I suppose so. But then the idea of Elminster running out of spells makes him seem too mortal, doesn't it :) Maybe he just ran out of good spells! You know, the good per day and per encounter ones.

What's the best way to adapt a setting to a new edition?

I chose Completely Ignore, with a caveat. Sometimes a new system changes character and creature power levels around, and that can require some adjustments. Depending on how drastic that is, you might want to explain the differences, unless everyone just agrees on the new arrangement. But for...

    D&D 4E 4E Roles and Classes

I'm guessing we'll be able to pick talents, feats etc. to make many 3e classes that we have now. Rangers would have ranged and favored enemy talents, barbarians would have rage talents, etc. But I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm hoping that picking a role doesn't shoehorn the build...

Anyone else hope the rules for taking 10 & 20 see some revision?

I have no problem with Take 20, it beats waiting for the player to roll the dice repeatedly until a 20 comes up. If there is a problem with how long it takes, there is always the wandering monster factor, however that applies. Take 10 is a little more touchy to me. I haven't used it much. I...

    D&D 4E Poll: 4E god stats

I'm hoping the 4e epic game supports fighting gods. To me, it was one of the trademarks of 1e to get to high level and fight gods. Q1 supported it, H4 handed it out in droves (if you consider demon princes and dragon queens gods, that is), and Deities and Demigods teased it. The part I always...

D&D 4E So who is going to measure distances in 4E rather than use the grid?

At one point in 2e I used to measure distances, but ultimately, in complex fights, a grid helps me figure out exactly where AoO's occur and what fireballs engulf, etc.

D&D 4E Are you happy with the coverage of 4e so far?

I was severely annoyed at first by the 1% information and the 99% flooding of speculation. That seems to have relaxed a bit, and I'm joining in on the curiosity. But I'd still like to see more information.

    PHB - Human only?

Making the PHB human only makes the presumption that the only relevent race experiencing the fantasy world from the perspective of the "lead character" is human. That's certainly not the case.
