Why did you stop subscribing to DDI?

From a technical standpoint, I agree. It would not be that difficult, technically. From a business standpoint I can't see a strong case being made for them to do so. I did have quite a bit of reasoning why typed up, but then I realized that I was getting way off topic, so I went to start a new...

Why did you stop subscribing to DDI?

So, what I am hearing here is, basically, that it isn't worth the cost anymore. The Good (let's start on a high note) The character builder was a good start on a useful player application. I think that most of us will agree that it was our most used application. The monster builder was a good...

    Help with a villain!

Reasons a mortal could want to destroy the world. Devoted to a religion that believes that after the final conflict/end of the world, all good people will be resurrected and heaven will rule on earth. Dark god or other great power gave back the life that the NPC lost in some sort of conflict...

Why did you stop subscribing to DDI?

I didn't want to taint the pool before getting some responses, so I avoided posting my reasons until now. But, in the spirit of fairness, here are my reasons. I was an early adopter, and subscribed for two years at the 50-something per year price. The first year was just a thorough test of the...

Why did you stop subscribing to DDI?

Okay, so if I am reading this right (feel free to tell me if I am mistaken) most of the loss seems to be focused on the recent changes to DDI, especially with regards to the CB. Mostly it seems to break down to this, at least in the later posts. Online only CB does not suit my purposes. I am...

Why did you stop subscribing to DDI?

While reading this thread on the gap between book sales and DDI subscriptions, and more specifically about people who used to subscribe, have or had the downloaded character builder, and let their subscription lapse, I began to wonder on what drove people away. So, if you were, but no longer...

    Difference in size...

One additional problem is vulnerability. Each damage type is a seperate damage, so if I have vulnerability 1 to all, then I get 1 point of damage extra for each type keyword in the damage expression.

Why I don't like alignment in fantasy RPGs

The alignment system works in a world of black hats and white hats. But if such a simplistic world was what we desired, we would only be playing modules that never forced our characters to confront any ambiguous situations. We could just walk into a village of goblins and murder heroicly slay...

    Ah! What Edition to use?

As a player, I may have gone with Pathfinder, but I haven't been a player for a few years now and as a DM, my vote has to go to 4e. The encounter system is well designed and such a huge reduction in DM workload that it is the only reason someone as disorganized as I am could even run a game for...

Why I don't like alignment in fantasy RPGs

Of the active editions, 3.x/Pathfinder is the only one that has alignment penalties built in for the paladin. 4e does not have a mechanic for enforcing alignment, in fact here is what the PHB1 has to say about it: So the dicussion has to be about 3.x and earlier. Plus, the BoED and BoVD have...

    Operation: Power Level Gary

One of the things I've always liked about D&D (and especially 4th) is the collaborative nature of it. A group of similar minded individuals all working toward a common goal.

Why I don't like alignment in fantasy RPGs

It seems to me this is really a difference in game philosophy. Basically, there are two types of D&D here that share rules but not goals. Play-style Type A - Collaborative storytelling The story is being created as the game progresses. NPC's are people too, with all the complexities therein...

    Firefly - First Episode: Serenity

I would give you XP, but it says I have reached my limit for the day. (First time for everything, I guess.) So instead I will give you an honorable mention, and stop back by tomorrow.

    Operation: Power Level Gary

An amusing thought came to me as I looked at the list of those who have given a Gigax Point. I'll bet that he has effectively tutored more students in basic math (and sometimes not so basic math) than any professor I have ever had. Here's to the teacher that makes math fun. Q:How many sides...

    D&D 4E D&D 4ed Power Tracker

I'll give it a shot, and see if any of my players want to try it out as well. I won't be able to get any feedback to you until the 25th at the earliest, because this week's game is about to start and I'm not going to delay it by introducing new tech to everybody. But, I will get back to you.

D&D 4E Advice: Running an Online 4e Game

I, too, am a preponent of Maptool. As for the audio, since I am already using Comcast VOIP for my home line, I just went and got a phone with speaker-phone built in to it. A couple of things about Maptool (RPTools in general): Check out the online tutorials. They are really quite well done...

Attacking vehicles - awesome or silly?

Actually, without motion around the sun, the planet would fall into the sun... [adventure hook]...which is why nearly all the mages of the world have been gathered together to constantly perform a ritual to hold the planet away from the sun. But this can only last as long as the residium holds...

I've managed to avoid Essentials, until now...

I think I will just address the original question and avoid all the competitive pissing and vitriolic posturing that seems to have taken over this otherwise potentially useful thread. One limiter that we have always used at our table is if you want to use powers/feats/abilities etc. from book...

When did Sneak Attack get upgraded?

I haven't been paying much attention to essentials. Did they update the other strikers damage as well (curse, quarry, etc.)?
