IIRC there is a feat called Crossbow Sniper that allows you to add 1/2 your dex to damage and also increases your sneak attack/skirmish range with said crossbow to 60ft. I think it's either in Complete Warrior or PHB2.

Yeah this brings up a question. Does a monk with two weapon fighting get an extra attack along with her flurry and is this extra attack an off hand attack that deals less str damage?

This is exactly what I thought. The spell wold be in effect so you still take half damage and get the AC and save buffs. OTOH can it be argued that since caster is dead and her body and soul are seperated that she out of range thus ending the spell?
