Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Kit Walsh has an email address and even a phone number available by clicking on her name. I am sure if someone (I suggest a lawyer) wants to ask questions or point out facts, then it is possible to do so.

    Battlezoo Shares The OGL v1.1

That was not a “Board Room Battle”. That was a proxy fight that Hasbro easily won.

    Battlezoo Shares The OGL v1.1

It would be remarkably rare for a Board to engage in such low level tactics. They could give advice to the CEO that his targets are too low. This is not the CFO being caught running away with bags of cash and her handsome assistant over her shoulder level of managment crisis.

    Battlezoo Shares The OGL v1.1

I still don’t get how Chardonnay is sexist. Was “yuppy” the only time I remember it being something that you pointed out. A “Chardonnay Drinker” could be any gender in that context and a beer drinker would certainly outrank them. That is what I don’t get, why is that sexist? I mean, I drink...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Poor Stellagama. Just received my softcover Cepheus Deluxe rulebook. OGL 1.0a in the back with the older and newer SRD cited but I don’t know if their is any real D&D in it at all as it is OGL Traveller and the OGL was probably used as the industry just accepted it so why not ….

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

From direct, personal experience, upper management does not react to the downgrade. If they are reacting, it is to the problem that lead to the result that lead to the downgrade. In Hasbro's case, they had a surge in MTG and D&D during covid but very quickly the market soured on entertainment...

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

Not so sure about that conclusion. The market itself has struggled and many stocks are suffering. I am not sure if the percentage change is a sign of deep troubles and if a 5 year timeline is best. Now, they changed CEO to Cocks fairly recently due to their old CEO dying. Cocks lead WoTC to...

OGL: Kobold Press 'Raising Our Flag' For New Open RPG

I would imagine this would be an SRD free clone of 5e. Kobold Press has released a ton of 5e material and has the incentive not to make a completely new system.

    Battlezoo Shares The OGL v1.1

Cynthia Williams is the BU head of WoTC (president, Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming,), I believe a direct report to the CEO and is high enough up that she was with CEO on the UBS webcast when she was directly quoted about monetizing D&D more. I think it is a fair comparison to the...

    Battlezoo Shares The OGL v1.1

The investor call was not leaked. It was public and it had to be to comply with SEC Reg FD (fair disclosure).

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

At the time the OGL was made, it seemed solid enough and WoTC made it clear that the intent was what people were imagining it was.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Enworld has already put out a pretty solid “5e” very recently.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

So Foundry is depending on another to decide it is not worth their while to change the "deal". Kind of like everyone using 1.0a. They do not make a royalty, btw. They sell their books. Yes, digital, yada yada, but they sell the book for the same price on D&D Beyond via FG and Roll20...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

They have not needed to, they were gathering info and were planning on this nuclear strike on the OGL and VTT in general. I already said that I am a Hasbro shareholder much earlier in this thread, but that does not change my opinion of their current contemplated actions. I mainly use Fantasy...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I disagree (except for the part that this is not Foundry that did it directly). Foundry massively benefits from 5e being available on their platform and the use is clearly not authorized by D&D Beyond. Owning the content on D&D Beyond is a benefit in and of iteself and WoTC does not get extra...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

The focus here is on creators, but the main weakness I see is in the very narrow distribution methods in place today. Close off One Bookshelf and Kickstarter and it does not matter much if you are right about the nature of the contract in OGL 1.0A. This is also a direct nuclear strike to all VTT...

"J. You will not attempt to circumvent or go around this agreement in any way, such as by creating separate entities to try to evade payment of royalties." No opening up a series of companies to keep earnings below $50K/$750K.

Did that GPL case get a court ruling or was it settled in private without a judge ruling on it?

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I think this is a hard argument for Hasbro to make because they have grown and prospered with this being in place for quite a while. Maybe they can claim their new edition launch might be irreparably harmed if there is competition but that seems like a stretch when there are plenty of non-OGL...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I think they can delay it to add cost and grind down their opponents who are much smaller than them by dragging out the pre-trial steps as long as possible, but they will be fighting against defense lawyers who will be trying for a speedy trial. Hard to say, some of it goes to the judge and how...
