Recruiting for Ongoing 3.5 Wildwood game

I was thinking of a character who worked with loam, soils, fungi, etc - the rot/renewal cycle. But if you want a life-type druid, no prob, I can take a different feat and a domain that would be more appropriate, given however druids work in the setting and whatever the conception of...

Recruiting for Ongoing 3.5 Wildwood game

If you would allow a feat to cause energy reversal, I would take it in a heartbeat. Given the wilderness setting, I'm thinking human druid/monk gestalt who was the gardener for an isolated forest monastery. Sound good?

Recruiting for Ongoing 3.5 Wildwood game

I have one question. Since you're doing the spontaneous caster variant for clerics, if I take a healing spell as one of my spells known, can I invert it without having to also learn the equivalent 'cause wounds' spell?

Recruiting for Ongoing 3.5 Wildwood game

I'd like to try as well. I prefer to play a healing role.

The Votary, a studious cleric PrC.

You can't just look at the number of abilities to determine the power of a class. A large variety of defensive features looks impressive on paper, but 2 things. 1)in practice you wind up with a bandaid 2)A lot of those defensive features are conditional. (evil spells, glyphs and wards...

The Votary, a studious cleric PrC.

Well, it can't fight as well as a regular cleric, has one worse save, and a weaker hit die. I'd say it would be okay with one caster level lost at first, and skill points dropped to 2/lvl.

Breathing New Life into your Monsters

I put this together on hobgoblins a little while ago. There is a bit more concerning their actual society, politics, and 'personality feats' (common hobgoblin personality traits that provide various mechanical effects) that I may post up if there is some interest...

My player submitted this class to me

The class, in and of itself, is not imbalanced. It gets a smallish selection of spells that it can use a modest number of times, in combination with fair combat ability. If anything, the focus split between those two elements makes it somewhat inferior to either in a system which rewards...

How would you describe the effect of a violet fungus attack?

Profound fatigue and weakness with jaundice. Tiny black specks in the skin.

    Feat for underaged character.

Ha! Although, you may want to restrict the effect to creatures of similar species. I don't think an ancient komodo dragon will care so much that it's biting a young girl instead of a sheep. Also, what happens with these feats if the character grows past the target age?

You didn't request it - I did it anyway - the Hobgoblin Thread

Hey, no problem, I love doing this stuff. I'm going to be adding details periodically, take whichever parts you want! Here's the creature that scavenges around their refuse in the winter (with a magic item at the end): Marsh Otyugh Size/Type: Medium magical beast (aquatic) Hit Dice...

Jon Tweet - Magic Item Creation

Man, what if an entire party of clerics and wizards all make items, all lose experience, thus effectively reducing the CR that a DM can send against them, while at the same time increasing their overall character wealth to stupid levels? What if they keep doing it? The key to controlling magic...

You didn't request it - I did it anyway - the Hobgoblin Thread

All that talk about Hobgoblins in another thread has inspired me. So here we have a thread in which I'm going to put together some homebrew hobgoblins. They'll be open for use in anyone's campaign, and questions/ideas on details are always welcome, especially mechanically. I'm going to be...

LA +0 Hobgoblin: who would you do it?

The Kargi and Krangi aren't even balanced with each other, let alone the core races. Anyway, hobgoblins as written aren't broken, per se, as a LA +0 race. They won't upset the game or anything. If you want more balance/flavor, something along the lines of: Stranger in a Strange Land (ex)...

    Feat for underaged character.

I was pretty much expecting "Jailbait", although I thought it would just be a charisma bonus versus opponents aged 30+. Summoning a horde of FBI agents is hella strong, but if you're playing in the kind of campaign where this kinda thing is allowed, I think it would be hilarious.

How powerful is abilty SA things usually immune to SA?

I have done so as well. The ability is already situational enough that the restriction on monster types is basically a kick in the teeth as opposed to a balancing issue.

    Campaign Settings: metaplot or frozen?

IDEALLY, I would like to see something akin to punctuated equilibrium: the setting would be static, and large-scale advancements would take place at periodic RPGA type gatherings, with player input.

    Creepy...

I think that this is part of what separates a decent DM from a good one. Knowing when to avoid oversaturating with any game element is the mark of experience and skill. I don't believe there is a rule of thumb for it, but if players seem to be getting a bit listless and fear shifts over...

    Creepy...

One way to be effectively creepy is to use inversion. That's why little girls are creepy - you're taking something that is otherwise cute and associated with purity, and turning it on its head. Another method you can use is to take a commonplace event or item, and attach a strange event to it...
