Thanks - I didn't think anyone was going to respond :)

    What about Open 2?

How strict is your DM with mundane equipment?

My players hardly put anything on their sheets unless it's magical, odd enough to make note of, or extremely expenssive I handwave a lot of stuff, unless I have good reason to suspect they don't have it in which case I ask. If they can't answer reasonably, they don't have it. My players often...

Best VOIP gaming programs? (was Ghostorb?)

I meant animation and mapping, etc, but I really don't know that mucg about them, which is why I started this thread in. What little I have seen of Open RPG didn't impress me, but I couldn't find many examples.

Best VOIP gaming programs? (was Ghostorb?)

Ghostorb sounded really fantastic, and I was quite excited by the idea - I had no interest in the getting paid to GM stuff, but as a friend of mine was possibly heading overseas long term I thought it would be a way to keep our long time campaign going. But nothing came of it. All I heard...

Best VOIP gaming programs? (was Ghostorb?)

I'm guessing GhostOrb can't be going too great - the latest item in their 'news' section is Merry Christmas 2005.

Which WotC base classes fill the 4 core roles well?

Perhaps not a necessity, but pretty close to it. Obviously it depends on the campaign but Turn Undead is such an advantage, particularly with a lot of the published module series (where they seem to expect there will be someone who can turn undead) and especially at the lower levels. Yes you can...

Best VOIP gaming programs? (was Ghostorb?)

I just wanted to know if anyone here had used Ghostorb or other such programs (OpenRPG?) to play 'tabletop' style role playing games over long distances. These programs combine VOIP or chat with facilities for online maps, rules resolution and so on. If so what your thoughts were on the pro's...

The top 100 'Sacred Cows' of Roleplaying

Yep, lock the thread, please. Job done, rats had, and people might start defending their sacred cows soon. :)

#89 "If you say it, your character said it" I hate that one, too. :)

The top 100 'Sacred Cows' of Roleplaying

I'm all for fun, but against the idea of it being 'the ultimate truth'. A lot of people seem to think of it as the be all and end all of role playing, "Is it fun?" being the only important point in evaluating a game. But I don't want to defend my rant here. :)

The top 100 'Sacred Cows' of Roleplaying

Yeah, given that a GM can 'beat' any PC that the players throw at him anyway, what's the problem? Let PC's create what they like - then the GM can build monsters to challenge them with the same intent!

The top 100 'Sacred Cows' of Roleplaying

So, what are those sacred cows of roleplaying that get your goat? I'm talking about those concepts, phrases or arguments that get rolled out as irrefutable answers in any discussion about a gaming issue or rules discussion. What bugs your bear? This is the spot for your rant! Oh, one little...

Suspension of Disbelief stretched to the breaking point in the World of Darkness

What I said, but articulated better :) Just accept the game for what it is and try to have fun. Or stay and decide to have fun. Players can be just as responsible for the game being 'fun' or 'not fun' as the GM is, and enjoying a game can be as simple as an attitude shift.

Suspension of Disbelief stretched to the breaking point in the World of Darkness

It seems, perhaps, that the GM is a little inexperienced (often things like 'believability' can fall by the wayside because beginners are swamped by the just creating a good game) but also seems that she has been working hard to give you a 'fun' game. If it isn't likely to change anytime soon I...

    I am drunk with power!!!

I remember in the car on the way home from that movie, we were all talking about the scary bits in the film so of course I had to lean over to my sister and say "So, do you wanna see something really scary?" She hit me. Hard.

Yah, I'm with Henry on this one.

    How to defend a store

An interesting idea would be to have your traps be connected to the characters 'front' business. If you decide on a mirror shop, perhaps some sort of mirror trap that traps the PC inside (a little high level, I know) During the day they would not be armed, but at night it would be a different...

MONSTER MANUAL 4: More Monsters/Less Fluff or Vice Versa?

That's a great way to keep your core demographic in the game. If WOTC had that attitude, they would lose even more people to Playstations, XBOX's and so forth. I set aside adequate time, and I think that after 10 years GMing the current campaign, my players would prefer me to keep on GMing. I...
