heh... as for not having it revolve around shadow, not to hard, if the gm is a bit creative. problem is that there are so many shiny toys in the book that you want to play around with. there is no reason why it cant be mobsters or the goverment or anything like that in a urban arcana setting...

when it comes to heros only being able to see the shadowkin, i think its more a case of people dont wanting to belive what the see. if they see a bugbear beating up someone, its rationalized as a big hairy man or something similar. still, i think urban arcana is more open about the shadow then...

about urban arcana and the lack of grit: the D20 modern book set the theme long before the urban arcana book came out. just look at some of the monster drawings, like the bugbear cop, the gnoll pimp or the illithid priest. or for that matter the magical items. i belive the leather jacket of +1...

hmm, makes me think of the black plague... as for bad guys that are not zombies. playing around with how the human mind works can create some very interesting enemys, and make the players question what we realy are at the same time... hmm, ill probably grab the dead tree version if it ever...

healers of old was just as much witches and druids and they where men of the cloth. hell, in many cases, the priests may well cut a person of from proper care as the person that knows how is a heretic or similar non-beliver...
