    Dagger Damage

Ever play final fantasy tactics? In battle, everyone was very resilient, taking multiple sword wounds, magic blasts, etc, just like in your typical D&D fight. However, in the cut scenes, murders would be one fell stroke, and a 'battle' cut scene generally was no longer than a few seconds as I...

Plot advice please - FT MILL SC GRP DO NOT READ

I like number two. Playing it to be a bit creepy, like just walking through the town of trees they feel like they're being watched, maybe even faint whispers as the wind blows through the branches of the man-trees. Maybe the trees bleed, so they're might be a couple of them that look like blood...

New Dark Sun Info - Free Tyr and the Mountains of Athas

Getting just 1 month of the subscription at this point or at any point down the line is so ridiculously worth it. The character builder and adventure tools will have all the material released up to this point, just for 10 bucks or whatever it is. A little cheaper I think. But you don't have to...

The Temple Between - Grand Cathedal Combat

I probably would have given the players each a monster to control while they were allies.

Bradaman's Weapon, Two Divine Chalelnges and Engagement

Rise, rise from the dead old thread! Does anyone think that Bradaman's weapon is overpowered? How many encounter powers exist that last the entire encounter? Heck, even daily powers that last the entire encounter are rare. But is it okay since it's so narrow in scope? (one-class only) Is there...

    Custom Monster: Slow Giant

Very cool concept. I don't think it's appropriate as a level 1 monster, I would say at least 4 and I think it should be elite as well. The bookkeeping of knowing whether or not his club is raised or not would be very annoying if you were running 5 of them versus the PC's.

The Magic Items that WotC cannot publish

Can you blame them from some other standpoint? I think the online tools are the best things to happen to the time it takes for DM preparation and character building. That said, I really want the the character builder to be more customizable and the adventure tools to have an optional toggle...

The Magic Items that WotC cannot publish

The new players I've introduced to RPG's to with 4E haven't complained about magical items at all. Given, it's only been 2 people, but just anecdotally the wonder or whatever of magical items might be the result of comparison to previous editions rather than considering the merits objectively...

The Magic Items that WotC cannot publish

I'm actually pleased by this article. 4E magical items are a balanced (for the most part) baseline from which I can deviate where I see fit. I can do the imagination part, they come up with the rules and numbers.

    PHB3 Debut: Ardent Speculation

It's a flawed question, I don't think they saw a ton of great alternatives and said "let's pick this crappy one," obviously whoever thought 'ardent' was reasonably good back when they first used it. As for me, it sounded fine until I read this thread and now it's starting to sound funny!

Why we like plot: Our Job as DMs

I agree! But what I meant was that in a game where railroading is going to happen no matter what, you might as well use player backgrounds as bait, give them SOME tiny amount of input into your game world.

Why we like plot: Our Job as DMs

Maybe reread my post; I'm saying that the trait doesn't appear out of nowhere. If you start realizing your character is becoming a loud-mouth, it's safe to say that he was before the session started, even if you didn't write it down. This is of course case by case. If something really traumatic...

Why we like plot: Our Job as DMs

What the characters do should be based on who they are, which should be based on what they wrote down. If you write down that you're character has a very strong defensive nature, he defends his friends when insulted by a drunkard in the tavern. It also can mean he opens his mouth to the duke...

Why we like plot: Our Job as DMs

Player input is definitely the best thing to happen to my D&D games. Putting in character backgrounds is not creating hooks, it's (to make a fishing analogy) telling the DM what bait they like to eat. The DM still creates all the hooks, all the story, everything. But instead of say "GO TO...

    a new D&d webcomic

Pretty cool comic, I'm enjoying it. One thing that's really bugging me is that characters have their mouth closed even when they are talking in a panel. Minor, maybe, but it's bothering me that characters who should be exclaiming something have a deadpan face.

    PHB3 Debut: Ardent Speculation

But, coining words or coming up with new usages is how English is full of all the great synonyms for nearly every word we have today! However, making up words or investigating new possibilities with old ones is the reason why English is stuffed with the tons of alternate ways of communicating...

Dragon 382 - Winning Races: Dusk Elf

I'd prefer some kind of wacky "cosmos" elf, that goes through various cycles. Like, phases of the moon, day/night cycles, eclipses, constellations, gargoyles, psychics!! Combine with the similarly flavored Cosmo sorceror for the fun to begin.

    PHB3 Debut: Ardent Speculation

Fine points, sir, but how did those uncommon terms become common? They must started out sounding funny! Is it D&D's place to try to coin words or give unique usage to old words? I would say... yes! But clearly, we'll have to disagree there. EDIT: From your point of view, I mean that leap from...

    PHB3 Debut: Ardent Speculation

"Ardent," despite being incorrect like "batman" would describe someone who is ardent, probably. I really know nothing about the class. I'm not sure what "common enough to pass muster" means exactly, or why common matters in weee fantasy world. For another more better example, how about calling...
