D&D 4E Perspective: 4E as one of "Ten most necessary remakes"

I hate pointless top ten lists. Especially top ten lists with each item on a different page to generate extra clicks and some very obvious padding to get up to a round number. As mentioned, the Apes remake wasn't particularly notable and Doctor Who is pretty clearly as much a continuation as a...

spearing a ship until it sinks

A lot of "rules" have limits on the extent of the situations that they cover. Newtonian mechanics works until you start dealing with large speeds or gravities. Euclidian geometry works for driving across town, but not for large distances on the surface of a sphere (at least not very...

    Destroying a Stone Bridge

The real question is if you want this to be an off-screen or on-screen and auto-succeed or chance of failure. But within the 4e rules, pretty much all 4e villains have an implicit power called plot device, wherein the dm determines what happens. Summoning Orcus isn't a 5th level power...

Does Wall of Force Block Sound?

Does the villain or one of his minions cast the spell? If so, then I'd says he gets to determine things like if it blocks non-magical sound, has a cool looking watermark, or what it sounds like when you hit it.

Monsters: Controller vs Artillery. Which is which?

Controllers tend to be in your face monsters, so should have slightly better stats. An artillery monster's best defense is to be farther away so you can't engage it in combat.

"Delve" Format and Page Flipping: Convenient or a Pain?

I really like the ability to open the book and just run an encounter with no additional notes. The extra work of having to haul around extra books for monster stat blocks doesn't work for me. To that end, I find the delve format to be great. That said, I don't think WotC has gotten it...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

Pretty much as a rogue, you should be SA almost every turn. You can SA any time you have combat advantage, be that because you are flanking, hiding, the target is dazed, etc. Is it over powered? Well you'll do a lot more damage than a bard, for example. Or really any non-striker class...

Goblin Hexer - Errata? Or just OP?

Are we talking no light perception at all blind or 20/200 vision blind? Those are both valid definitions of blind.

Scales of War - Feedback and Advice

Having played/DMed this from level 1 to 20, here is my impression of the series. The first few adventures don't string together well. It doesn't begin to feel like a connected AP until the level 10-20 adventures. It also has the problem of ridiculously complicated maps that no DM could draw...

Goblin Hexer - Errata? Or just OP?

So I'm "Blind" when I take my contacts out. I couldn't see a target well enough to hit holes in the armor, for example. And if someone were to make even a minimal effort, I'd probably lose track of them (ie make a stealth role). But I could still tell enemies from allies, and roughly where...

What's the Consensus on Illusory Wall?

The try again bit indicated that on later turns it cannot auto-succeed later, but must be subject to the attack again.

    Dungeon Tiles or New Maps?

I miss useful handouts. I'd far rather have a nice set of PC handouts over an awesome encounter map. The Players will see the handouts, but only I will ever see the map as it is in the book.

    Dungeon Tiles or New Maps?

If I'm ever just going to read the adventure, then bespoke maps are cool. If I'm going to run it as a DM, I hate the overly complicated maps in Dungeon. IME from playing through/running SoW, the coolest looking maps end up looking like crap when drawn out. Tiles look like crap on the page...

    D&D 4E Castle Ravenloft boardgame as a simpler 4e?

I don't see it. That is, if I were to RPGize CR, I'd end up with something really pretty close to 4e again. As a minis combat system, 4e is pretty tight.

    How do Wizards cast Spells?

It should be noted that 4e has a entire deity dedicated to locking people up and torturing them. That's basically all Torog does, so he should be pretty good at it. Torog's manacles of binding should block any sorts of magical hanky panky.

The Value of my DDI Subscription

I guess my dollar bills are worth more than yours, as there's no way I'd ever spend them to see the Clash of the Titans remake. But just because there are worse ways to spend money doesn't inherently make DDI a good value. I agree that the cost of DDI is incredibly cheap compared to many other...

    D&D and the magic economy

I tend to treat the DnD economy of magic items as just an odd sort of XP system for my gear. Moreover, though this system appears to overlap with the mundane economy, it might as well not, as the prices are widely disparate.

The Value of my DDI Subscription

This is the first I've heard that DS monsters won't make it into the compendium. If that's true, then it is sad news indeed. It betrays a certain implicit promise about what the compendium should be. I do not disagree with anything else in this. If major improvements are made by the time my...

    Defintion of Creature and Enemy

The additional nitpick would be enemies must also be legitimate threats. A sack of rats is not an enemy.
