Web-Based CB is Live (Official Announcement)

well my suggestion would be that every single time i click on anything in the program it shouldn't involve sending and receiving data to and from a server.

    Online Character Builder is LIVE!

FWIW, mudbunny has a quote from some of the devs that says it isn't a load issue, but a different sort of problem.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

Two finger scrolling on the mac doesn't work.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

This is crazy slow. And I say this after running the old CB inside VirtualBox on an older mac without gobs of ram. Yeah I'm sure some of it is lots of hits from people trying it out, but it seems like every single click requires waiting on the server to send back data.

    New Character Builder from WotC!

edit: nevermind looks like the program just doesn't show level bonus info in an informative way.

    magic missile always hits again???

It's not bad if you are a human wizard and thus get 3 at-wills. MM has a place (long range, auto damage, several minor synergies like its a basic attack, there's a daily that works with it, etc) but it's just as controllery as pretty much any other wizard power.

Aliies in area blast and burst attks??

If they used "Targets enemies and allies", it would still leave out yourself. You are neither an enemy nor an ally. So they'd have to use the phrase "Targets enemies, allies and yourself". Clearly creatures is significantly more succinct.

Monsters that are a Waste of Pages

I'll second this. I've encountered or run them a few times. It always feels like there's a bit too much complexity relative to the fun they give off.

Monsters that are a Waste of Pages

The scare the crap out of my characters, not because of the shrieking, but because something canny enough to install an alarm system put them there.

    D&D 4E 4e D&D Plays Like a Video Game, and That's Awesome

IIRC, lawsuits. Atari currently holds the video game rights, HAS wants them back. Moreover, I think a lot of the bigger companies have decided that its more advantageous to hold their own IP; so you're more likely to see something like Dragon Age instead of Balder's Gate.

    Non-magical area attacks

my objection to that is then why is there an arrow slit? If it has no effect on the game, then that seems somehow less to me.

    Non-magical area attacks

I'll just say that, similar to the last discussion on this, these sort of terrain elements shouldn't be used willie nillie. But making it a complication is little different than a trap that attacks whenever someone uses an arcane power, or attempts to bounce all ranged and area attacks back at...

The Legality and Difficulties in Harvesting Compendium Data (Hypothetical)

I'd argue it does, if we are talking about legally making a personal copy of the compendium data while one is a current subscriber. Certainly distributing the material would be a copyright violation. But keeping a personal copy for offline access would seem to be legit primarily because it...

The Legality and Difficulties in Harvesting Compendium Data (Hypothetical)

Format shifting is generally considered fair use, as the EFF quote earlier said. Printing is a case of format shifting.

    New CB Power Card Pics!

The +2 could be from the dragon magic class feature (add str bonus to damage rolls). I'm assuming these are different options for displaying info on the card. Or possibly the character didn't have a dagger equiped so the power didn't have anything to auto calculate.

The Legality and Difficulties in Harvesting Compendium Data (Hypothetical)

Yeah, i wrote my own compendium searcher/browser for the mac because the older web one was horribly slow on my older machines. Heck, they even had a few articles from the designers on how to do it.

    New CB Power Card Pics!

I find it useful to have the text of the power card spell that stuff out. That way you can see where the numbers come from.
