Its worth noting that you can sign up for an account, download everything you want, and then cancel the account and everything you downloaded stays active, just not update-able. So for a one month cost, you get the CB and MB, all previously released magazine issues, etc. That's a good value.

More importantly though, there's no way I'm complaining about FLGS's getting the game before amazon starts shipping. I'm cheap and understand that should be a tradeoff.

My approach to amazon is if I want something quickly I'll buy it from a local store. Amazon will get stuff to me eventually, but it'll be cheaper than anyone else. CR was 40 bucks from amazon for me, so I'm not going to get upset at a week or two delay.

Amazon originally was selling CR for 40ish bucks. As I understand it, they had to bump up to the full price to avoid getting the release significantly after everyone else.

I personally had the opposite impression. The 3e MotP felt encyclopedic, while the 4e MotP felt more like a guide for building good campaigns.

I think the other way of putting it is that after 2 years of playing roughly weekly, I feel like the first month was a little off, but since then its been great.

I'd imagine it would work reasonably well, aside from the minor problems you'll always have integrating DnD with Cthulhu. But the Dragon Below often influences crazed ideas in his followers.
