    A mystery race ?

And the designers will say "it's super cool!"

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

If I was marketing 4E, my approach would be completely different. I would slowly over time announce which races will be in the core book, say one per week. Combine that with the classes and call the column something like "The Core" That gives you a slow roll out and eats up two months of...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

Any reason why they can't put up a specific feat or power and "feature" it on the website....Heres the new wizard pushback ability and how it works. Instead we get a bunch of vague descriptions which do nothing to excite me about how the game is played and more importantly tell me nothing on...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

Joe, I am glad you are sounding off on this. You are someone who is relatively "respected" around here. Others like myself don't get a lot of street cred because we have low post counts or don't like to hear ourselves post. Note that does not imply that all people with high post counts just...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

Chuck sorry to disagree with you on this type of analogy. Computer games are totally different. Half-life was arguably one of the greatest computer games of all time. Halo has probably eclipsed it in popularity, but at the time Half-life was huge. When Half-life 2 was coming out they pimped...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

Chuck, I find this interesting coming from you. I have watched your production of Modern 2.0 and the blogs related to it. I thought I got way more information as a consumer than I would have ever expected. Despite this "spilling of the beans" it got me fired up and interested about this...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

The problem is the designer blogs don't tell me anything so I have already stopped looking at them. If anything it tells me to buy the core books and decide at that time. All I have learned from designer blogs is how super neato they are!

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

The other interesting aspect to this is that I would guess the majority of players have no idea 4E is coming out. If DnD insider, Enworld, and RPGA, etc. are avenues for communication and playtesting, one has to wonder are they effective. As for your definition of intimate, it is all relative...

    D&D 4E Rant on the 4E "Presentation"

Yeah, but in my mind that is a bit of a cop out. The internet is the main preview/advertising vehicle for 4E so saying it's worthless cheapens what WOTC is trying to establish. They're making a big push to tie DnD to the internet by establishing monthly services and material. If you're going...

Way to get girls (?!): the new column for the new Dragon.

Don't worry, I am a native speaker and couldn't make sense of it. I have to remind myself why I want to spend $10/month on DnD insider content.

    Time for some Black Pages?

To take a page out the WOTC blogs, "I'm sure this is probably more than I ought to say right now, but" I get a little tired of the I am not supposed to say this routine, especially since they're not saying much.

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Your post made me realize that I need to clarify my thoughts a bit. It seems we may not be as far apart in thought was it would appear. I have two streams of thinking that have got a bit blended together. 1. Your right Gary's DnD is not any more generic than what the 4E designers are...

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Yeah I know what your saying. Unfortunately, somewhere this thread slowly transformed into mostly dealing with cosmology.

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Take my discussion to extreme you could assume that all versions should be the same. What I am saying is that Gary's foundation laid the groundwork for what we call DnD. Change it too much and you have D20 fantasy. It lends a commonality that we all relate to. I agree so why force more new...

    Double Weapons: Scrap or keep?

My halflings just used shortswords because the mental image of my halfling carrying a full sized two handed sword seemed silly. Not as silly as the halfling producing a halfling sized two handed sword. I guess if he wanted that he would have just carried a longsword. Never seemed to need...

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Care to elaborate what I said that was ridiculous? I don't think anyone could successfully argue that the original incarnation of DnD was something other than Gary's homebrew. What I don't want is 4E to be the designers homebrew. The new edition should be about improving play and fixing...

    Elemental Planes Killed

I agree with you 100%! What I love is how everyone defending the changes is taking examples of cosmology from Eberron, Planescape, Ravenloft, Forgotten Realms, etc and saying it's different from traditional DnD cosmology. Well it should be since they are setting books and not core.

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

You're absolutely correct. You're also referencing settings not core rules. Gary is the exception since he invented the game and I would expect to have DnD, ODnD, ADnD, etc to be based on his homebrew.

D&D 4E Is 4E the designers homebrew coming to my gaming table?

Dry and boring is not what I am advocating. The text can be flavorful and inspirational. See my previous post here regarding the barbarian. If the core books were written perfectly they would have information that would be compatible and not contradict all the setting books such as FR...
