    D&D 3.x Will 4E combat actually run slowly...slower than 3E?

The problem is that options in character gen are "good", but that means NPC gen is more complex, and there goes prep time out the window. Why do I feel like 4E is being pushed as a "you can have your cake and eat it too."

    D&D 3.x Will 4E combat actually run slowly...slower than 3E?

Well for one, more class choices = more complex NPC creation = more complex DM prepping. It's not that I prefer less choices, it's that the marketing hype for this edition is a more streamlined game with less prep time. Start to add in new abilities based on the weapon your character uses...

Designers: Say Yes to Bards! Save the Class

And this is the mentality that scares me. Core is defined as " the central, innermost, or most essential part of anything." In a sense, it is the building blocks of the game. By simply calling things the DMG2, PHB2, MM2 and at the same time calling them core you end up expanding the game's...

    D&D 3.x Will 4E combat actually run slowly...slower than 3E?

My concern is that all of these maneuvers will add more decisions to character creation, not less.

    D&D 3.x Will 4E combat actually run slowly...slower than 3E?

Can you be more specific about how this happened? I am a bit unfamiliar with Bo9S except from previews, a quick read through at the bookstore, and Enworld traffic.

    D&D 3.x Will 4E combat actually run slowly...slower than 3E?

This is quite helpful in my understanding of maneuvers. I don't own Bo9S and was turned off by the idea. If one maneuver replaces 4 attack rolls, then sign me up.

    D&D 3.x Will 4E combat actually run slowly...slower than 3E?

I have two major concerns about 4E design. I realize this is all speculation but here goes 1. With the addition of all the new time segments....will the game actually run smoothly? We have quick, immediate, free, standard, etc. This seems to be a more complicating and reminds me of the old...

D&D 4E Has the 4E Announcement Changed Your Buying Plans?

Well, at least not all of it ;) I enjoyed previously playing SW, but never bought any books. This will give me an excuse to get a nice well written core rules. Much of my same philosophy with 4E ironically.

D&D 4E My reaction to 4e or, "A Breathe of Fresh Air"

I hear where you are coming from. In general I think 4E could be a refreshing start. I have played 3.5 long enough to realize its faults, but at the same time have learned to live with them. My concern is that the endless line of options will continue. It seems to me that players want more...

D&D 3.x 3.5 is the REAL reason everyone is angry

I've always laughed at this idea. How do you out compete the 800 lbs. gorilla in the room with proprietary rights to a brand name?

D&D 4E Has the 4E Announcement Changed Your Buying Plans?

Ahahahaha! WOTC, no spell compendium, rules compendium, or magic item compendium purchase from me. I've got about $90 in barnes and noble gift certificates that I was literally going to use last weekend. So much for that idea. 3rd party d20 modern books and possibly SW Saga here I come.

Will the electronic table top affect miniature sales?

I don't play online. I play at a tabletop. I also game with a group that usually has 3 or 4 laptops at the table. I could easily see us using the virtual battlemat and we would be gaming right in front of one another. The demonstration video gives you a great perception of what your...

Will the electronic table top affect miniature sales?

I agree that collectors won't stop collecting, but there are a certain number of us who may have bought a pack or two to have minis to game with. That need goes away if you decide to use the virtual battlemat which clearly allows you to place monsters. I would assume some fringe mini buyers...

    30 Levels

I just love the announcements from the R+D right now. I realize that they can't/don't want to reveal everything at this point. I just get the sense they're talking out of both sides of their mouths. One side fuels the video game analogy with ideas like now you don't have to recharge in...

Malibu Stacey has a new hat!

Not working on 4e is different than, "4e is a long ways off". I agree most of the focus was on multiple settings, but I think the overproduction of splat books in 2e is why I and others like me only bought a few from 3.5. Also the reason I will own only a few from 4th Ed. Online format is...

Will the electronic table top affect miniature sales?

I am not a huge fan of DND miniatures due to the random packs. I do use minis in my game frequently to represent the players and opponents. Ideally I would have a troll mini to represent the trolls, orc minis for the orcs, etc. Does the new electronic tabletop decrease you desire for minis...

    D&D 4E Race Matters more in 4e?

I don't say this often, but I totally agree with that. If it saves a few pages for new content I would be on board with your ideas.

Malibu Stacey has a new hat!

My concern is with WOTC more so than the actual 4E. I think this is where a lot of negativity is coming from. Some of my concerns: 1. Wizards PR and handling of the fans: Were not working on 4E.......Let's introduce 4E. 2. Wizards handling of supplements: TSRs downfall was too many worlds...

    Subscribing to D&D Insider

I have never really liked the DND website and have used very little of their free content. I have not subscribed to Dragon or Dungeon in over 10 years. That would make me leans toward probably not. Now that I have moved away from my original group, I would consider it if the electronic...

    D&D 4E Race Matters more in 4e?

My suspicion is that the racial abilities are a means to give you a power up every level to avoid the off levels where you get only a BAB/Save upgrade. To use 3E terms which may no longer exist you'll get something like this: Level 1: Race, Class Ability, Feat 2.Class Ability 3.Feat 4.Race...
