Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

Mostly as rituals which makes them slow and not very useful. Why did this get moved to the general forums. It's a thread about 4E rituals?

So why can ANYONE use rituals?

It's the fact that so many more feats are available. So the cost of two feats isn't so expensive over the long haul. Too cheap if you ask me.

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

In fact I usually was the rogue so I don't see things the way many of you have had things play out. Every game has its exploits.

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

Again why waste time scribing scrolls if you have a perfectly competent rogue in you party. As for high levels....lots of things were broken. My high level dual pick wielding ranger (dwarven minor was his story) could never generate as much damage as the barbarian or fighter. This was...

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

But who plays DnD with a guy who trys to move in on my character's schtick? I don't know about you but I play with my friends. In games terms...why would a wizard who has chosen to ally himself with a party that includes a rogue waste his precious spells on invisibility, knock, and illusions.

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

In fact I often prepared utility spells. There were often wasted, but when they did work they usually advanced the plot, made a combat more memorable, etc. Perhaps my play style is a bit different than most. I don't think I tried to beat the DM or "win the game". Divination and teleport...

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

This is a perfect example of creative casting at its finest.

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

First let me start by saying I like the idea of rituals. Some spells are perfect for them...divination, resurrection, scrying, etc. The seem to fit into the feel of rituals and appear appropriate. Why does the "quickest" ritual take 10 minutes? Take something like discern lies which is level...

So why can ANYONE use rituals?

For those excited about rituals I ask you this question. Does the fact that anyone can use rituals bring us one step closer to no classes and point based character builds? I mean it's not too far from saying you want to play a spell caster, then spend two feats and some skill points. The...

    Are Rituals Vaporware?

Ah, an interesting use of the spell.....but I think there is a line between abusive spell use and creative casting. For me, your example likely lies on the abuse side of the line. Creative casting is what often drew me to the wizard and cleric. Many spells have both "ritual" uses and "combat"...

    Are Rituals Vaporware?

Can we not threadjack this into a discussion of paragon paths and their purpose. Back to rituals.....my only fear is that old spells which are likely to fall into ritual magic will now be excluded from creative uses in combat. A few examples: 1. Create water used to form a pool to hold a fire...

DDI, are you ready to game on the Net?

I think all of us would rather game face to face. This affords us the opportunity to game with old groups. These are friends I talk to on the phone and visit from time to time, but are people I never play with. A online interaction would allow for us to get together and enjoy a game. I am...

Cleave: Give me room to work, my minions!

I actually really agree with you. The power will also be worthless at high levels....who cares about 3 points of damage at 20th level. The old cleave was at least still useful.

D&D 4E Are 4E powers mimicking poor playability of Dodge?

I see from a technical standpoint that bard song is different for the above reasons you listed. However, take two players (Bob the Bard and Frank the fighter) when Frank's turn comes up, Bob reminds him about his +2 bonus. I don't see that as much difference on a person to person interaction...

D&D 4E Are 4E powers mimicking poor playability of Dodge?

I want to love 4E, but I am a skeptic by nature. I will preference my post with the knowledge that I am excited by 4E coming and will definitely wait until I buy the 3 core books prior to making too many judgements......but one thing stands out. After reading the news page on Enworld the 4E...

What is this I am hearing about PHB2/DMG2/MM2 being required?

File of the serial numbers of the "Complete".....series, rename them PHB# (whatever you want), and it sounds like you have the new 4E core. I see no difference of the glut of splat books that will ensue

    Mage Hand cantrip

Why do you say this? If I remember my physics class correctly the speed of the object is the same on impact as it is right after being fired. As it approaches the apex of the arch the missile decelerates and reaches zero at the peak. It then begins to accelerate on the way down gaining the...

Will the 5 minute rest encourage roleplaying?

I am not sure if you mean actual roleplaying or simply avoiding metagaming. The question is do your players a #1 or #2? #1. "We rest for five minutes to recharge our abilities" vs. #2. "I take a seat on a nearby rock, wipe the blood of my sword, bind my bleeding wounds, and take a sip off my...

Is the 15 minute adventuring day now the 90 minute adventuring day?

I still think people will camp once their daily powers are gone. The only difference is now the whole group will be demanding it, not just the wizard. Yeah you could go on but why when you can rest and be at full power. (Mind you I too never saw the 15 min adventuring day) My other question...
