Spiked Chain: The Ultimate Defenders Wep or Sir Not Appearing in the Edition?

This thread makes me laugh...I think back to an NPC we created to increase the numbers of PCs in the group. He was an Arabian themed rogue who was a whip specialist (think of the Arabian guy that Indiana Jones shoots with the giant scimitar....but also add a whip). After one session we...

    Board Game Suggestions

I can't agree with Steelwind more. Game of Thrones was fun with just two players but really lends itself to more. Five would be great. It's simple, easy to understand along, and has a bit of a fantasy theme. Twilight Imperium 3rd is fun but much longer. We would leave the board set up in...

Dragon 364 News at Gleemax [merged]

That will really win me over as a consumer and make me consider shelling out money for the DDI. Why are we moving away from print content from an outside company again? Oh, and don't forget the fact that they have a standard production schedule to keep up with. I am sure the Dungeon/Dragon...

    d12, the LEAST used die

I couldn't figure out what a platonic solid was so I googled it. Ah Ha! A reference to Plato...convex ployhedra....math....fuzzy math!

    Seeking reviews for Modern20

For those not aware, Chuck mentioned a special thanks in the credits of Modern 2.0 for those of us who contributed to the discussion of the product during its development. It thought that was cool gesture so I bought a copy....Come on people it's $10! I knew I would want it anyways, but I...

Do the PCs ever die in these playtest reports?

Yes and no. I agree that is how many of the playtests read, but they are meant to be captivating. I am curious how the per encounter mechanic will work in actual play in regards to death and near death. Running away has always been a part of DnD and none of the playtesters really seems to do...

Do the PCs ever die in these playtest reports?

I totally agree. At first it was grasping for straws....reading vague descriptions of game components that might show up in 4E. I have quickly switched to meh! Most playtests don't tell me anything except whether the playtesters DMing style would mesh with mine or make an interesting game to...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

No I get that. 3E delved into all sorts of different types of AC, natural armor, dodge bonus, etc. That was a problem people exploited in the system. For 4E I don't care where you derive your AC from. If I designed 4E there should be a limit to how much magical enhancement one PC can have...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

Well, we really don't know if there is a mechanic to enchant clothing. Robes may be special. If clothing can be enchanted here comes my magical cod piece. Well, cheaper is relative to creation rules in 3.5. We don't know if those rules will be similar for 4E. I am not a game designer but I...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

Do we know item creation is limited in 4E? It may be appropriate for a 9th level character to have a +2 sword, but nothing will stop a character from purchasing or creating a +5 items ASAP. The only way I could see this being prevented is limiting the PC from what could be wielded by level...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

I'll throw out a few thoughts which may differ from much of this thread (I did read 16 pages..ugh) By tying the +'s to specific spots you really can limit some character concepts. What if I want to make a swashbuckler type character who doesn't wear armor? No more bracers of defense really...

D&D 4E How do you feel about 4E right *now*? (week of 1/21/08)

In reference to the Digital Initiative....It was the thing that interested me the most and seems to have the least support. I agree it's completely optional and unnecessary. Consider it representative of my expectations for 4E. Promises of quicker gameplay, simpler mechanics, easy to learn...

    D&D 4E Reinvisioning the Halfling for 4E

I struggle with this whole thread a bit and the new incarnation of 4E halflings and here's why: 1. People want halfings to look different than humans. Well, the old hobbits were short, rotund, big heads, and hairy feet.....check! Now it's the Tasselhoffs that look human and become the...

D&D 4E So why does the 4e DMG costs the same as PHB?

Does this really happen? In every group I have played with almost everyone has a DMG. Perhaps this is because we rotate DM roles at different times. The only people who didn't own DMGs were the ones who owned a copy and trashed it through use. There were enough copies at the table that they...

    Playtesting vs a .5 Edition

Merric brings up a good point with one's point of reference and definition of core. I don't consider the power creep of all the 3.5 splat books core. I own 3.5 PHB/DMG/MM and maybe 1 or 2 supplements. Bo9S, the addition of swift actions, etc are all non-core to me and as a result 4E appears...

Holiday Present - The Elf PHB entry

It seems there is some disdain for the old elf bonuses to longsword and bows. In general, why are people happy with their removal? I sort of miss some of the old crazy bonuses such as immunity to ghoul paralysis, ability to find secret doors, etc. I can remember some times when those had a...

Why are they making demi-humans taller?

I find that a little disturbing in a game dealing with fantasy, pixies, sorcerers, and dragons, and undead. I also find it a bit concerning because according to this we should increase the size of kobolds, goblins, etc. I guess my characters won't fear them since they are short.

Thoughts on charging for game table "miniatures"

I don't want to come off as sounding like WotC shouldn't make money....They should! There are several different ways to turn a profit. Charge very expensive prices and thus limiting product availability to those special few who can afford it or charge a reasonable price and open it up to the...
