    D&D 5E (2024) Can Wild Magic be a Wizard 'thing' in D&D 5?

if you want wild magic to be generalized, it would work best as a feat. wild magic; +1 int, wis or cha when you cast a spell, you can roll on the wild magic table for results as in sorcerer wild magic subclass.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

it was rhetorical, we know ti was because of "muh compatibilitah", that will get thrown out of the window with next splatbook.

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

my problem with 2024 is that they didn't change enough. why bother with making new books if you are going to change maybe 5% of the game? only new thing is weapon mastery and that is a half miss-half hit feature. It could have been done better. universal subclass levels could have open options...

D&D General Which edition handled alignment best?

I would vote 3E as I liked various spells and items that keyed of alignment, but I have PTSD from various people playing Lawful Stupid paladins, so vote goes to 5E for ability to ignore it 100%.

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

most landmines today have bigger pressure trigger, so small animals do not trigger it. but we have to count in small adventurers and their low end limit in weight, that would put it in 30-35lb range, well above mage hand limit, even if you drop 10lb from 30ft

one of the things I like about 4E is that everything is an attack roll.

D&D 5E (2014) What is the Deal with the Twilight Cleric?

this is a good way to limit darkvision and not remove it. basically make useful only for combat value, anything remotely skilled based that requires sight is at disadvantage or impossible.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

it was the same in 4E, just masked with level bonuses, if you started with in 10 or 8 in ability and no class bonus on the defense, you started at 10 at 1st level and you got 23 at 24th level, while casters attack went from +4 to +19. not really an upgrade for the bad defense, it's even worse...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

if a spell can be mostly countered by walking away from others and not spending any gold or class resource, then it's a highly situational spell.

    D&D General Ships & spellcasters

I blame 4E for short ranges and that everything had to fit on a table battlemap. 3.5E, 10th level caster fireball is 10d6 at 800ft, add dirt cheap Lesser metamagic rog(enlarge) for 3x a day, you get fireball at 1600ft

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

yeah, zombies with lots of HPs can be used as melee in mass combat, for their XP budget they bring a lot of HPs to the battle.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

low level mooks should later be used only as ranged ambush troops and spaced out, so you never can catch more than 2 of them in a fireball. that teach you at basic military training, do not hug each others behinds, that way a single hand grenade or a burst from a machine gun will not take out...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Speedy is not D, when you are good at something it's even better when you add to that strength, I would say C at least. Charger is also good to combo with high speed, unless you are kensai monk from 2014 you are mediocre at ranged combat at best. if your Con is 13 or 15, crusher is a good...

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

used 60% hit chance if you are point buying you start with dex&wis at 17&16, if you want 20/20 that leaves you with grand total of ONE feat to take. and weapon mastery is really on the bottom if my list to take that has a dex or wis ASI attached.

sure, but really you are spending a feat that you can deal extra 4 damage at level 17.

    D&D General Limiting Utility Cantrips

it's a fallback as number of spell slots(and it's a good decision) was drastically cut down from 3.5e, back then you really could not run out of spell slots. 18th level sorcerer had 65+ spell slots from levels 1-9, now 18th level sorcerer has 20 slots to use. if cantrips didn't scale at levels...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the Deal with the Twilight Cleric?

or just simple, and it's skill based, while only observed by darkvision in complete darkness you can attempt Stealth even without any cover and directly observed. you just blend into darkness. and everyone has disadvantage on Perceptions as normal or -5 to passive Perception.

    D&D 5E (2014) Am I missing something on 2014 rogue?

rogues have less damage, less AC. less HPs, worse saves(Con>Dex), question is, do those 2 extra skills and 4 expertise with reliable talent really out weight that?
