D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

that is why I said that every class should have it's "suggested build". This is the Ranger according to WotC. Rest is for your immagination. also, there is duty on non-new players to help new players with building their characters. and you can always make ranger as simple as possible with my...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

if there is feat chain for Companions, then the subclass gets the ax by default. or we can have feats balanced around subclass, basically, subclass is a set of feats for the beast. this is a problem that 1st and 2nd level were too heavy in "feat" budget, which is good for having your 1st level...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

problem is that for last "forever" years, everyone and their mothers has own opinion on what ranger should be. so this is a solution to all; here is your box of LEGOs, make your own ranger and STFU. will it be perfectly balanced? No, but maybe it will be better that current ranger.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

you can have both, have classes as suggested pre selected feats, and let "advanced" players pick and choose. as for Uber/unter combos, well, do PLAYTESTING!!

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

tireless and nature's veil needs to be decouple from wisdom, just have them be used 5/Long rest by defaul.

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

every class is a feat tree, just you dont have a say what it is in that tree, it'a, here is a log for you, go play with it. also, there is nothing wrong with picking feats that do not work with each other and making your character weak, that is called "learn2play". Every single new game that...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

maybe not, but it would still be better than "take it or leave it" features that are here now, especially the all beloved HM and all it's "improvements" So here is a draft or ranger with talents. Ranger talents: Favored enemies: All favored enemies provide you with this benefits...

it can be, but it would be little trouble balancing it, but base way would be similar to warlock invocations. call it ranger talents, then you just pick talents in a way that it best describes your ranger.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

I would avoid giving anything new to super high levels, almost no one plays them, maybe I would even remove new subclass feature at level 14, subclass peaks at level 10, after it's just more or better usages of already gained abilities. IE, Battlemaster would get Relentless at level 10, but with...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

I think that EVERY ranger wants to sneak up on the target rather than engage then directly, but ranger is atleast better equipped to fight after surprise ends or fails. one house rule that I like is that you trade your 1st level heavy armor proficiency for 1 skill+ 1 expertise. That give...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Scout while it has somewhat flavor of the ranger is pretty meh as a subclass and rogue is pretty weak as a class, little better in 2024. Now Rogue/scout with a level of fighter can simulate a decent ranger that is true. That was my 1st character in 5E(well, rogue was assassin until Scout showed...

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

yes. 5E is basically, 80% of characters have 14 CON, 19% have combinations of 12 or 16 and 1% is everything else just delete the stat, move con saves to STR(it would help balance of STR vs. DEX) and give everyone +2 HP per level. have HDs heal max amount when used. also add universal...

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

I dont like them much either, it's cool idea, but their spells come online too little too late. So I like any version of spell-less ranger there is. as for half casters, here is my version of spell progression for them: right table is modified spell slots and spell levels. you get new spell...

D&D 5E (2014) The 2024 Ranger is Actually Pretty Good (with numbers)

I don't mind HM being in rangers arsenal for those who want to use it. it's an OK spell. I would like to delete all Ranger features that rely on using HM. HM as an option to use is OK, HM as a mandatory feature that sucks away class resource pool is awful.

D&D General Rangers should be built on a primary and secondary stat

don't need to change base DC if you make everything, including DCs as two ability based. Fortitude save: str+con reflex save: int+dex will save: wis+cha but I would tie most spell DCs to mental stats or Con Sorcerer: cha+con Druid: wis+int Paladin: wis+cha warlord: int+cha ranger: int+wis...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

it's a level 4 feat(needed to clarify that), will edit, so unless you want to be a wizard with 8 con, you should have more HP than a companion. something like 80% of PCs have 14 Con. AC, HP is fixed with prof bonus, irrelevant of ability scores, same with attack or damage, abilities only affect...
