D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

me too, but for most basic use, we should not overthink it. here is a simple houserule feat for it. Companion: requires level 4+ +1 ASI, gain a beast or plant companion movement: one of the 4, Bonus action Dash or Disengage 1. 40ft, 40ft climb 2. 30ft, 30ft swim, water breathing 3. 10ft...

Spelljammer Could this mutiny have been handled better?

You should talk it out with your fellow players and see what is appropriate for your games, but for what is worth, IMHO they did the correct thing, mutiny is punishable by death. also no half measures, either you grant clemency to all mutineers or you hang the lot of them.

D&D 5E (2014) The 2024 Ranger is Actually Pretty Good (with numbers)

Have hunter's mark damage part last for 1 minute without concentration, but skill advantage for full duration, no Conc OFC. that way you can have both combat bonuses when you need it and ranger's "flavor" of having an ability to help tracking. it would be best if that is not a spell in the 1st...

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

animal companion is worth more than one feat later on, but I do agree that it is worth 1 feat when you get the feature. 3,5e ranger has 1/2 it's level as effective druid level, so animal companion improves at levels 6,12 and 18. Natural bond feats improves animal companion for 3 effective druid...

D&D 5E (2024) Rules Clarification: Epic Boon at 19th Class Level or Total Character Level?

agree, I would even allow Extra attack features to stack from various classes. 1st, it buffs mostly full martials which is good. 2nd if you want 5 attacks as fighter 5, monk5, paladin 5, ranger 5, go for it. It would be one really good feature at lvl20.

D&D General How do I find spells that both rangers and wizards can cast?

guess we do not need to worry about T-800 just yet.

D&D General Which Ranger Companion Solution Do You Prefer/Use

I don't see why it cannot be large beast from level 3? warhorse is a good example. just needs it's HP,AC, speed, damage to be balanced. AC: 14 HP:20 Speed 60ft, Bonus action Dash Damage: 1d6+4, attack +6,

D&D 5E (2024) Martials: damage scaling like cantrips?

yes, it would also feed into narrative that you can kill a lot of mooks per turn without some cleave mechanics as an option. also it's fun to roll attack rolls more times, at least for me. with a lot more attacks per attack action, TWF can be made easier, just increase number of attacks by 50%...

how to have a tiger companion? your beast have HP equal to 5 plus 5×your ranger level, if that amount is higher than average HP of the beast in MM or other books, you can tame that beast, Tiger has 37HP, that means 7th level.

D&D 5E (2024) Martials: damage scaling like cantrips?

that works also, but I would still lean towards more attacks than more damage per attack. more attacks is more consistent and can temper the swinginess of d20.

D&D 5E (2024) Martials: damage scaling like cantrips?

I would rather have 5 attacks for 1X damage than 1 attack for 5X damage.

D&D 5E (2024) Martials: damage scaling like cantrips?

I would say that is covered by extra attack, but there is little consistency in the game, cantrips are universal at levels 5,11,17 but without ability bonus(by default atleast) and extra attacks as a martial you might get and might not, universal is 5th level and additional only for fighter...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

solo monsters are always bad idea for encounter, action economy will be the end of them. if you do not want to add 2nd wave of monsters as reinforcements, there can always be healing magic available or just adding more HP to monsters. lowest goblin does not need to have 7HP, he can have 15HP...

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

one thing a DM has, is more monsters, you always have more. one good thing that I have is potions of "Summon X" if battle is going too bad for NPCs too fast. point is that PCs win the encounter, but not too easy. having 2/4 or 3/5 PCs knocked out during every encounter is a good difficulty...

D&D 5E (2014) [House Rule] Dropping proficiency bonus

if agreed on, for everything. natural 1 is either ignored or counted as "-5" on die roll if everyone just "needs" crit failure. and there is crit success only for attacks, nothing else; 1+11 = 6+6 = 12+0

D&D 5E (2024) What battlemaster maneuver would you allow to be used at-will, if any, but without adding die roll to the effect of it?

I have thought about Riposte that way, but it works best with S&B builds and they really do not get a lot of damage out, and you still need to hit that attack and it uses your Reaction. ofc, this free usage can be limited to once per round, so you need to not use it on your turn in hope that...
