Constructing and Working out the Epic Game

I was having the same concern when I compared my character to the paragon death slaad. It appears to blow everything away thus far. My human Ftr/Rog can't touch its AC.

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

Expeditious Retreat is a good one with respect to "non-normal" movement. IIRC, Wall of Force should have a reflex save to avoid. Is this in the errata? If it is, I don't need to list it, but if not, should be on the list. I'm positive Skip said it should have one, just like the other...

Constructing and Working out the Epic Game

OK, well I updated my character. Still working on equipment and backstory, but at least he's 37th now and has a few more toys :-) http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=367607#post367607

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

Enervation is not unclear, or even commonly house ruled from what I have seen. We'll leave balance to other threads. If you want to discuss that particular spell, start a thread and I'll chime in along with everyone else :-).

Timestop: What exactly can you do?

All spell durations "stop", but they are still in effect for the duration of the time stop. All spells cast do not "begin" until Time Stop has ended. That includes instantaneous spells. The text about everyone else being impervious to damage makes more sense for ongoing magical effects and...

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

I'm not sure. Haste seems to be the "must have" spell. It is in nearly all the smackdown combos and is pretty unique. The next spell that gives "extra" actions is time stop, which has problems of its own.

    Epic Level Monetary Guide

Hmph, I made an honest mistake. I didn't know he didn't have the book. I asked the same question when I had the book (the table is really small and not in the best place IMO).

If Harm is broken, what's the best house rule for it?

Will Save for half of current HP total is what I use. Monk's are "survivors". That's about the only comment I'll make on that. I'm usually pretty easy on HP rolls. Once we did an arena style game at 16th level and one guy created a dwarven barbarian with a staggering amount of HP (it was 300+).

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

Good call. Mind Blank goes on the list. Especially the Mind Blank vs. Discern Location conflicting text....

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

There is a group of spells that fall under "DM Interpretation". Off the top of my head.... Commune Contact Other Plane Foresight Legend Lore I don't think there is anything wrong with the spell wording, but the interpretation is left up to the DM, which is not consistent from game to game...

Constructing and Working out the Epic Game

Ack, you're right. Man that's mean.... :-). I'm just glad no one can sneak attack Calidor every round.... Guess I'm getting a ring of blinking....

Constructing and Working out the Epic Game

I thought the ring of blinking would be pretty cheesy. <Edit: rest of this paragraph deleted :-)> If I were going to go that route, I'd add improved invisibility to one of my rings. Even with all of that, I still would not be able to hit your AC. Sheesh. Maybe if I caught it unaware, but...

Constructing and Working out the Epic Game

Um.....yeah. Might need to redo some of my character Calidor. Compared to some of you folks, he's just an annoying fly.... but then again I wasn't going for super monsters of death and destruction ;)

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

Blade Barrier is listed because it breaks the damage cap for spells of its level. I don't really have a problem with it, it is just being listed as a spell that can break a damage cap. Geas/Quest I think are great spells and should remain. As has been pointed out above, the wording is unclear...

    quickened touch spells?

A quickened touch spell does get the chance for the touch that round. The rule you are looking for is the one on touch spells in the spells section of the PHB. When you cast a touch spell, you are allowed to "touch" with it that round. You were reading the Harm + Quickened Inflict thread...

D&d We Have Became Too Nice

D&D 3.x What are the "problem" spells in 3E?

Flame Arrow also does not have a damage cap. *That* is huge at Epic Levels, since all other spells do....

    Unbeatable Colossus?

I think they are just saying a fully equiped party of 4, at level 33, don't have a shot of defeating a CR 33 creature. Recall that a party of 4 people at level X need only expend a quarter of their resources to defeat a CR X critter. The Colossus appears to be 10 or 20 CR ratings too low....

Constructing and Working out the Epic Game

I lent it to a friend of mine, but I'll get it back on Friday. I think I recall seeing it, but I think I'd stick with rogue. Once I look over it I'll consider it. Honestly, the sneak attack is a big part of the character, and I'd rather not give it up with a PrC that does not have it.:D
