Eh, it depends what they do with it. All of the elements sound kind of wacky together (steampunk + dinosaurs + traditional D&D races), but Deadlands sounded wacky to me when I first heard of it and I love that setting. I have a feeling WotC will come through. Nick

Any character can use any weapon 2 sizes larger than himself, just at a -4 penalty. That's a pretty significant penalty. Nick

One of the other things that seemed to have been dropped is the procedures for determining encounter distance. The spot distances got wrapped up in the terrain descriptions, but that's it. I don't have my 3.0 DMG anymore either. :( Nick

The gist I got from the reply was that you just ignore the light, one-handed, and two-handed designator thing all together when dealing with ranged weapons. You just worry about the sizing penalties. Nick

Alright Hypersmurf, WotC got back to me. Basically, characters are allowed to use ranged weapons either 2 categories larger or smaller than they are. They suffer a -2 penalty for each category (-4 max). In all other ways, the rules function normally. It's a bit unsatisfying, but at least...

Well, pg. 160 says that darts and shurikens are treated as light weapons and bolas, javelins, nets, and slings are treated as one-handed weapons when used in each hand. I have no idea what to do with projectile weapons though. I called customer service and the guy told me that it's a DMs...

Alright, I paged through the entire 3.5 DMG. I'm convinced that they didn't include the rules. Sure, there are spot distances listed with each terrain type, but the other rules are not there. Weird... Nick

Yes, I noticed that too, but I know there were other rules covering encouter distance. Maybe WotC decided to let encouter distance be subject to more DM interpretation, but that isn't really their style. Nick

I don't have my 3.0 books anymore. I know there were rules in the DMG for determining an ecounter distance based on spot checks. For the life of me, I can't find them in the 3.5 rulebook. Can anyone help me out? Thanks, Nick
