Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

Hm. Six, six and ... six? ;) I still haven't see a convincing and detailed argument for how your game would appeal to those markets. And here's my arguments against each of them : Collectors - RPG collectors from what I've seen (and I am one) collect books primarily - collecting boxed sets...

Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

It's also about ownership - since my first character sheet, these characters are ones that I've felt a connection to - and in turn, they've helped me form a connection with the game, and with roleplaying games in general. I've never felt that way about any monopoly piece. Nor a HeroQuest figure.

Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

I think the question on the lack of marketing of the D&D boardgame should really be why didn't Hasbro (the publishers IIRC, not WOTC) do some sort of marketing campaign? There may be answers there of course that might not be wanted - like the mass market not wanting 'role playing games' ...

Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

UK, you keep touting the D&D boardgame. They were selling it in New Zealand. Or trying to. The last time I saw a pile, they were on discount (over 50% off) in order to try and clear a product that wasn't selling. I think it's fairly safe to say the D&D boardgame failed in the New Zealand...

Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

I think you might find that if you actually look Occam's Razor up, it says nothing about game design - it's about explaining phenomena.

Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

In response to my question of I'm not sure who you think the market for this would be? Well, based on the poll results, #1 in your list aren't in the market for this. #2 already have products - and products which are aimed at boardgamers. #3 - I don't believe the market for D&D miniature...

Could this be the future format of 4th Edition D&D?

UK, I'm going to quote what you wrote in the other thread - Your reasoning seems to be that a boardgame, with an advanced rulebook for in depth rpg play could succeed the existing tabletop rpg, which uses 'boards' as a supplemental mechanism. I'm not sure who you think the market for this...

What is THE NEXT BIG THING?

The next biggest thing in tabletop roleplaying will be ... a board game? That seems to be your base argument here - but it's not one that I'd accept, and I doubt many other tabletop rpg gamers would either.

What is THE NEXT BIG THING?

Has anyone ever mocked up something like d20 lite? Just four races, four classes, limited feats to fit a limited level progression (say to level 4 or 5), all the skills, but with limited choice (pick 4 of these 5 skills etc), limited weapons list, limited equipment list etc? I don't see that...

What is THE NEXT BIG THING?

Some people enjoy the micro-management. :) As you remove elements that some enjoy, you potentially lose that chunk of the market - to whit: - when I GM, I don't want to play an adversarial role. When I play, I don't want a game where the GM runs the game in an adversarial fashion. If you...

What is THE NEXT BIG THING?

They may also not have the patience or interest in campaign play. Casual gamers implies the group that like casual games that can be played quickly - Hero Quest can play for several hours - which is a bit longer than what I'd consider a 'casual game'.

    Why do you play D&D?

A friend and fellow CoC roleplayer asked last night: "Why do people play D&D?" and while I have my own reasons, I got to wondering why others do. So, if you're currently playing D&D, why? (I recall a similar thread a while back, but a quick search didn't yield anything, hope its ok to start a...

Alternate History: Magic The Gathering Never Exists. What Changes for D&D?

I think it's hard to answer the 'What IF?' question without some information on the state of things at the time - while I'm aware of the timeline at http://www.darkshire.net/~jhkim/rpg/encyclopedia/ for RPG games, is there any web resource that details TSR in the nineties, with information on...

What is THE NEXT BIG THING?

Two 'next biggest things' I could imagine: * A massively multiplayer online system with a modicum of weak ai agents that caters to those who want to create as well as level up, something like a hybrid WoW/Second Life. If you want to play a game, you can. If you want to create, you can. If...

Is there a reason why you can't use the 3.0 cover rules in a 3.5 game? My 3.0 books are still sitting on my shelf, I have the 3.0 SRD floating around somewhere..?
