    In Place of Chainmail?

Heh. Well, there **is** that other WotC miniatures book that seems to be selling well w/out the need for a D&D figures line. Some sort of handbook for D&D players. (; Anyway, several days ago, my FLGS heard a rumor that WK is putting out a new line of figures **directly** into the retail...

[OT] Job Opening: Tennessee hotel seeks new DM

Dumb tactics you used as a DM

This is why I let players play NPCs. GM: "Kill 'em." Player: "Okay." Cedric. aka. Washu! ^O^

    Transhuman Space

Let's see... * RPGnet should give you more advice. Yes, Transhumans Space is complete, but so are the D&D core books, right? (: * GURPS sourcebooks are infamous for **not** being played with GURPS. Use your favorite space rpg mechanics and enjoy. Cedric. aka. Washu! ^O^

    Player hand-outs?

One random thought is to browse through a Call of Cthulhu adventure. They're chock-heavy with handouts, although not setting info. Some thoughts: * Short pieces of information, a few paragraphs long. * Information contains information necessary for the adventure. * Information handed out as the...

    [OT] Graduate School

Stanford MSCS here. Went after a MS only b/c I had a BS in biology then took community college CS courses. Had I had a BS in CS, I wouldn't have gone for a MS. Found out about pointers the hard way (: so wasn't able to slack. I also saved $$$ by becoming a TA and working in the consultant's...

    [news] Chainmail is back

Yep. Random. OTOH, Random miniature game packs work, since you can hold sealed box tournaments to level the $$$ playing field. With RPGs, this can't be the case. It's the story first, miniatures last. The quality of WizKids prepainted miniatures can be very good. I'd look at the DC HeroClix...

    In Place of Chainmail?

Now, there's an idea! Alongside WotC modules, sell miniatures sets that can be used with the modules, which include a few (insert WotC Miniatures Game Name Here) combats. The combats are optional, of course. I **liked** the old Grenadier miniatures boxed sets. I don't know what monsters I'll be...

    In Place of Chainmail?

OTOH, The unpainted miniatures market has been around longer than D&D, and WotC learned its lesson from Chainmail. Likewise, companies like Reaver produce excellent unpainted miniatures. Gamers who don't have time or skills to paint have MageKnight, which at least requires filing off the...

    In Place of Chainmail?

My Chainmail rantlist: * I already have mini's. I don't want to buy more. Especially ones that have to be painted and require assembly. * Where'd these Chainmail factions come from? * Why weren't there specific rules to convert D&D characters and monsters to Chainmail in the basic set? I...

DMs:ever have player get mad at you for their dumb decision

EQ RPG had the Knowledge (Monster Lore: creature type) skill. Hope it makes the PHB Revision. Kill them all and let zombies eat the rest. (; Cedric. aka. Washu! ^O^

    Forgotten Heroes: Paladin

I'm reading Call of Duty, which has quite a bit of emphasis on roleplaying and player paladin design. How much of Forgotten Heroes is about roleplaying? Thanks, Cedric. aka. Washu! ^O^

Should I nix the PC's Paladin status?

Currently reading Call of Duty. Here's a good quote: "Whoever or whatever in your campaign granted the paladin his powers would be loath to take them away. As long as the paladin is performing, that is, effectively protecting the innocent and fighting evil, a few minor infractions on the Code...

Bizzarre items (and should RPGs include more decorative & "useless" items?)

Heheh. Obsolete magic items. Somebody post the D&D version of a "Crazy Eddie" ad. Cedric. aka. Washu ^O^

Bizzarre items (and should RPGs include more decorative & "useless" items?)

I was actually disappointed at the 101 Mundane Treasures (by Phillip J. Reed (?)) in that they were anything but. IIRC, The Dragon had an article of everyday magical items, including frying pans that heated themselves so you didn't need a fire or stove. In any case, anyone who's posted to this...

    D&D and D20 at Walmart?!?

I doubt the local Walmart will stock the D&D core books, but even if they did, it's even more doubtful they'd stock anything beyond that. d20 material drives core sales, but core sales drive d20 products. In other words, once a new roleplayer picks up a core book at Walmart, he's going to look...

[OT] I'm paying $350 a MONTH in Car Insurance!!

Move back into the house and have the car under the parent's name! (: New cars are bought and put under the parent's name. The oldest car is transferred to in child's. Works for us, although I loathe the thought of driving an SUV in a few years... :P Cedric. aka. Washu! ^O^
