Take Your D&D Adventures Into The Realms Of Middle-earth

Do the new classes have any magic in them (I assume not), and is there a caster class? If so, how does magic work?

D&D 5E (2014) Good Sandbox Size for a Region in Forgotten Realms

Yes my guy inclination was a 400 x 400 mile area, to allow for some wilderness crossing that takes a few weeks. Lots of varied opinions however, I have put the same poll on other social media sites. Very different views out there!

D&D 5E (2014) Good Sandbox Size for a Region in Forgotten Realms

Yes actually I was thinking along those lines, to be honest. I figure roughly 10 miles/day (adventurers laden with gear, 8 hours travel), so a month worth might be 300 miles, something like that.

D&D 5E (2014) Good Sandbox Size for a Region in Forgotten Realms

What is a good sandbox size for a "medium"/regional area in Forgotten Realms (but not a hexcrawl)

D&D 5E (2014) Incorporating DCC game mechanics into D&D 5e. Any tips or hints?

I suspect it would be easier to move from 5e to DCC than the other way around. Just take adv/disad and off you go.

What levelling up rules do you use?

Well for LFG there is a requirement that the PC meaningfully contributed to the session, but other than that, no need to train/rest to gain the benefits by default. Like all things LFG however, the rules are subject to the GM, and the advancement section includes a paragraph that some GMs might...

What levelling up rules do you use?

My favourite way to level up is the Incremental Increase from 13th Age and similarly the Session Advance from Low Fantasy Gaming. Basically, take one thing from your next level, and gain it between sessions.

D&D 5E (2014) Tweak Instant Cure spells to fix whack-a-mole

Might be too deadly at -10 hp though, lots of damage inflation in 5e

D&D 5E (2014) Tweak Instant Cure spells to fix whack-a-mole

I feel the -10 rule would solve the whack-a-mole issue, but not the "more dangerous/deadly" objective, but that's really another topic

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

On the contrary, white room maths involving lots of averaging is often meaningless in play at the table, where your actual rolls matter, as opposed to some theoretical expected median/average/bell curve result. If people around the table arent enjoying the -5/+10 because it feels like it's...

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

Ahh, frankly if you want cool big hit moments, you're better off playing Low Fantasy Gaming and using a Major Exploit (which all PCs can do, incidentally) ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Do DM's feel that Sharpshooter & Great Weapon Master overpowered?

yep, those feats are fine as half feats instead: +1 stat and the other ability. There is already a lot of damage inflation in 5e, the -5/+10 should never have made it past playtesting. PS - all the evidence I need is from playing. Two games with the -5/+10 allowed, those PCs dominated and...

D&D 5E (2014) Tweak Instant Cure spells to fix whack-a-mole

that is a strong disincentive indeed!

D&D 5E (2014) Tweak Instant Cure spells to fix whack-a-mole

For me, this is would preferable to whack-a-mole, but if the party is not willing to heal people as they approach zero, that means to me the penalty for dropping to zero is not hefty enough - it's not dangerous enough. But that's another issue (for me, the answer is an Injuries & Setbacks...

D&D 5E (2014) Tweak Instant Cure spells to fix whack-a-mole

I'm not so sure about that - I think beign reduced to zero hp is quite uncommon, or at least using the default guidelines. Of course teh GM can always add more monsters. But increasing the dangerousness/deadliness is indeed part of the objective. I dont want to hamstring the party though for...
